Most of the ancients had font sizes. Why do they say the names are separate?
China has a rich and colorful surname culture, and the ancients also had a complete set of naming rules. China's first dictionary, Shuowen, explains "name" in this way: "Name is pretentious. From the mouth of the evening, the evening, the ghost, the ghost does not meet, so it is named after the mouth. " It means you can't get to know each other after dusk, so give everyone a code name. We all belong to the same clan and tribe, and we can't all be called big dog two dog. It's neither pleasant to hear nor easy to distinguish, so it has a name.
In fact, names and words have different functions. Names are used to distinguish identities, and words are used to distinguish inferiority. It is good to call children by their first names, but it is not so polite to adults. Therefore, the ancients named their children by their fathers three months after their birth, and used them as surnames or self-names. But the characters are late. Generally, men take the characters when they hold the coronation ceremony at the age of 20, and women take the characters when they hold the gift ceremony at the age of 15, which is used for other addresses. In other words, the name is one's own name, indicating modesty; This word is used by others to show respect. For example, the famous patriotic general Yue Fei, whose name is Ju Peng. When introducing himself, people expect him to call himself "A Fei" to show modesty, while his friends usually call him "Ju Peng" to show respect and elegance.
The word "name" means that the ancients were both famous and had characters, both of which were external and internal. For example, in the Romance of the Three Kingdoms, we see that "a certain surname Guan Mingyu has a long word", so the role of words is to supplement or explain the name. The ancients generally took Chinese characters in two ways. First, the meanings of "name" and "word" are similar, or "word" is a further elaboration of "name". For example, Qu Yuan, a great patriotic poet of Chu in the Spring and Autumn Period, was named Ping Zi, because "Yuan" means broad and flat, which corresponds to "Ping".
Li Bai, a great poet in the Tang Dynasty, was named "Bai" because his name and words were all white. It is estimated that his skin is fair. He did not forget "narcissism at once" and emphasized that it was really "too white". Poet Du Fu has a beautiful name and beautiful words, because the explanation of "Fu" in Shuowen is a good name for men, which shows that Du Fu's father wants his son to be a handsome boy. Second, the meanings of "name" and "word" are opposite. For example, Han Yu, a writer in the Tang Dynasty, was named "Yu", which means something further, so he took the word "Gui" for modesty. In short, ancient names and words, whether synonymous or antonym, are always related. A word is an explanation of a name, just like the extension of a computer file.
Note: Regarding the origin of Li Bai's name, the preface to Tang Dynasty's Collection of Caotang said: "... therefore, it was born with a white name and ethereal white characters." It means that before Li Bai was born, the mother dreamed that Taibai star entered the dream, and the child was born immediately, so it was named Li Bai, and the word was too white.
