Introduction to the Institute of Chinese Studies at Xiamen University

The Institute of Chinese Studies of Xiamen University was founded on October 10, 1926. It is another important Chinese studies research institution established by Chinese universities after the Chinese Studies Department of the Peking University Research Institute and the Chinese Studies Department of the Tsinghua Research Institute. Its establishment reflects Xiamen University’s emphasis on academic research, taking into account both middle and Western learning, and focusing on the rectification of Chinese studies. It was also Xiamen University’s positive response in its early days to the academic trend of reorganizing national heritage at that time.
