According to legend, in ancient times, the Yangji Ban (now the county government residence) at the foot of Fenggang Mountain and its surroundings were very attractive with lush forests and bamboos, ancient trees, seven green peaks, ten-mile flat currents, waterfalls and caves. (Seven of the old "Eight Scenic Spots of Shayang" were within the territory). Many phoenixes once lived in the hills and thrived, so the area north of the county seat was called "Fenglingang" in history. The "篢" in Yangji Ban refers to a tool used to fan the wind and keep cool in the old days. Because of the unique scenery and wide field of vision, long-distance travelers who pass by here will raise their fans to stop and take a look. It is also said that in ancient times, a "Qiulong" (a small dragon with horns, one of the nine sons of the dragon in legend) appeared in the river section of Shaxi City, so it was called "Qiujiang River", and the county seat of Shaxian County was abbreviated as "Qiucheng". .
When Li Gang, the famous Prime Minister of the Song Dynasty, was the editor of the National History, he was demoted to Qiucheng because he wrote about state affairs. During his exile, he often went boating on the river (the compiler of the National History also called it "Taishi"), so the Qiujiang River was also called "Taishi Creek". The original Fenggang was located on both sides of the Qiujiang River, with Fenggang Mountain to the north and Fengshui Mountain to the south. It can be said that each town is in the same position as a dragon and a phoenix. It has been said in Bafang Township throughout the ages that "Qiucheng is a treasure land of Feng Shui". In the past dynasties, the city has been known as "Jinsha County" because "hundreds of boats competed in the stream and merchants gathered on land." The city had developed economy and trade and was relatively wealthy.
