Go to Mount Putuo, a fairy island on the sea, and talk to Buddha
"Suddenly I heard that there are fairy mountains on the sea, and the mountains are ethereal." The Zen and landscape paintings of Putuo Mountain are all in Bai Juyi's poems. When it comes to this holy place, one of the four famous Buddhist mountains in China, everyone knows it. .
Putuo Mountain is a special existence in the Zhoushan Islands in Zhejiang Province. It is surrounded by the sea and has a charming scenery. No wonder Guanyin Bodhisattva chose this place as a dojo as early as the Tang Dynasty. "God" (magic, sacred, mysterious) is famous all over the world and is a place that everyone yearns for.
A sea-to-sky Buddhist kingdom has almost everything to say about Putuo. The island has many scenic spots and historic sites, and there are also many wonderful legends circulating on the island, attracting countless people to come and worship. Even many emperors in the past dynasties have let go. Go to worship in a noble body.
In this "first pure place on earth", chanting, sitting in meditation, and singing verses are all heard. What you can feel is not only the magic of Buddhism, but also unprecedented peace and tranquility. It seems that what you are practicing is Zen, but in fact it is spiritual unbinding. When your mind is calm, the breeze comes naturally.
Pure land in your heart
Then there will be gods everywhere
No sense of north and south
A Zen journey that touches the soul
That’s how it started
…
Boat is the only means of transportation to Mount Putuo. To worship Buddha, go to Shenjiamen Pier early and take the first morning boat to the holy place in the hearts of Buddhists.
It is said that the Chinese women's volleyball team regained the gold medal they had lost for many years at the Rio Olympics. Do you know why they regained the gold medal? It was because they visited Mount Putuo before leaving Beijing. After hearing the news, the Chinese men's football team also wanted to come. The host of Putuoshan replied: Don't embarrass the Buddha.
Of course this is just a joke, but it is enough to illustrate the position of Mount Putuo in the hearts of Chinese people.
After disembarking from the ship, we entered the "Haitian Buddha Kingdom". On the archway of the mountain gate is a plaque with the name "Putuo Holy Land", which was written by the calligrapher Mr. Sha Menghai, and on the back is written "Guanyin Dojo".
There are no taxis on the island, and we rely on tour buses to get to and from the scenic spots. The fare is on the high side. It seems like 5 yuan or 10 yuan is not much, but when added up, it is not a small amount. I chose the full-day trip Walking, not having quick legs and feet, is all due to poverty.
You can see this stone after passing the Pier Square. Many tourists will take photos here, mostly because of the name of the person who signed the stone.
Avoiding the crowd and not taking the ordinary route, I walked left from the passenger terminal along the seaside and started the tour mode from the Xitian Scenic Area.
The scenic spots in Xitian Scenic Area include Jiepin Temple, Pantuo Stone, Guanyin Ancient Cave, Ergui Tingfa Stone, Meifu Temple, Yuantong Zen Forest, Millennium Ancient Camphor, Bodhidharma Peak and Heart Character Stone. Here There is no scenic vehicle access, it is all hiking trails.
The first attraction is Jie Ping Nunnery, also called Jie Ping Chanyuan, a very small nunnery. Because the nunnery is small, there is no Heavenly King Hall. The four heavenly kings are directly sculpted on the wall. Ensure the integrity of the form.
The big trees outside the gate of Huangqiang Mountain are very strong, and coupled with the dazzling sunshine, it gives people a strong sense of impact. After bidding farewell to the Kaiping Zen Temple, we soon arrived at the gate of the Guanyin Ancient Cave. Climbing up the stairs, we saw several ancient camphor trees covering the ground with thick shade, and the leaves sprouted new buds, giving us a sense of Zen.
Putuo Mountain temples, regardless of their size, are dedicated to Guanyin Bodhisattva. The 19th day of the second lunar month, the 19th day of the sixth lunar month, and the 19th day of the ninth lunar month are respectively the three major events of Guanyin Bodhisattva’s birthday, monkhood, and enlightenment. During the incense festival, people on the mountain will gather together, chant sutras and worship Buddha, and stay up all night. It is called "the faith of half the world" by scholars.
The Guanyin Ancient Cave is like a large stone chamber, with stone milk hanging upside down in the cave, like leaning on the ground. Ruochuiyun, there are many Guanyin statues inlaid on the four cave walls and stone pillars.
Behind the cave are shady ancient trees and stacked boulders, with the inscription "The Great Master Reappears". It is said that Guanyin Cave is quite efficacious, so believers may wish to give it a try.
There is a transshipment hole in the cave. Most visitors will put their hands together, half-close their eyes, and circle clockwise, letting go of those obsessions for now.
The sea-viewing platform outside the cave is great. It is a good place for a scenic drive. The mountains and sea look at each other in the distance, and the blue sea and sky are refreshing for your eyes and heart. Even if you are not here to worship, but just to see the mountains and sea on this island, it is not a worthwhile trip.
Lie peacefully in the pavilion and rest while watching the scenery, which is very comfortable. There is a couplet on the pavilion, which says: If you are greedy for the narrowness of the universe, you will be satisfied with the breadth of the world.
Philosophy too!
On a platform at the top of the mountain, there is a pair of huge rocks that look like they are about to fall. According to legend, Jindi Zang meditated here before entering Jiuhua Mountain. Later generations called this "meditation stone" the Pantuo Stone. The three characters "Panda Stone" were written by Hou Jigao, a famous anti-Japanese general. This guy was not only able to use a gun, but he was also good at writing and ink. His writing was so strong and powerful that it was as powerful as flying into the sky. However, the word "石" was a little extra. It is said that General Hou When he inscribed the inscription, the stone was shaking, so he added a little bit to the word "石", and the stone became stable from then on.
Many people, like me, think that the Pantuo Stone is the small stone on the top. They are wrong. The Pantuo Stone refers to two stones, one stone cone standing on the other. It seems to have no place to rest, but it has been there for hundreds of millions of years. Untouched, unshakable by all calamities, typhoons over the years have destroyed countless buildings, but there is nothing you can do about it. You can only bypass it when you see it, so it has the reputation of "the best stone in the world". It is said that at midnight on the first day of the new year, the upper stone will float and can be cut across with a thin line.
Continuing upward, there is the Ergui Tingfa Stone. Have you seen the two turtles?
There are two turtle-like rocks attached to a huge rock. One is climbing up with its legs stretched out, looking anxious; the other is perched on the top of the rock, looking back, looking victorious. The person looks like. They were two turtle figures sent by the Dragon King of the East China Sea. They came to Mount Putuo to listen to Guanyin Bodhisattva's sermons. Unexpectedly, the two figures were fascinated and refused to return to the Dragon Palace. The Dragon King was very angry when he found out, and they were punished as a result. Turned into stone and stayed here forever.
According to legend, Jia Baoyu's "psychic jade" in "A Dream of Red Mansions" originated from Lingshi Zen Temple, and because the Banduo Stone and the Ergui Listening Stone are both around the temple, it was named Lingshi Zen Temple.
The preaching platform mentioned earlier is nearby. The stone top is as flat as a platform, and there is a stone statue of Guanyin, painted gold. It was here that the good boy worshiped Guanyin.
Looking down the mountain, you can see Xishan New Village and the financial district. Putuo Mountain is really a beautiful place in every corner.
Looking far across the way, there is the giant statue of Guanyin in the South China Sea. I will go there later. Looking at it from this angle, Guanyin's body is slightly leaning forward.
We walked a little further and came to Meifu Zen Monastery. Legend has it that it was the place where Meifu, a hermit in the Western Han Dynasty, practiced alchemy. The sign in front of the mountain gate reads "Alchemy Cave" and "Enter here". This entry is practice, the ethereal bells only guide the way, and the chirping of birds truly conveys the Zen spirit into the heart.
The inscription on the back is "The Solemnity of Hua Zang", which reminds you of the focus of this nunnery. This is the only nunnery in Putuo Mountain with the main hall of the Main Hall. There is a Lingyou Cave in the courtyard. In the cave, "clear waves are flowing, and there is no end to the drought." The world calls it "fairy water." .
There are hidden temples all over the mountain. When the road is running out, you will meet a monk again. Walking further up is the Yuantong Zen Forest. It is located at the top of the Xitian Scenic Area. It was first built in the Ming Dynasty and expanded in the Qing Dynasty. Surrounded by mountains on three sides and facing the sea on one side, this nunnery has lush trees and an elegant environment. It is a place where temperament is cultivated and personality is sublimated. It is also the legendary only place on Mount Putuo where monks and nuns practice together.
The plants, trees, bricks and tiles in the Zen temple may seem careless, but in fact they are all carefully laid out. In 1919, Kang Youwei stayed in the nunnery for a short time. He was so impressed by its beauty that he took the opportunity to write the title "No. 1 in the sea and sky". The plaque of "nunnery".
The Buddha statues enshrined in the temple are made of pure copper. It is the only temple in Putuo Mountain that enshrines copper Buddha statues. This "Bronze Hall of Zhengfa Ming Tathagata" is the largest pure copper temple in China.
Going all the way, there is a greenway. It is comfortable to walk freely. Going forward is the stone gate made of three stones. The stone gate is narrow and can only allow a person to pass through. The horizontal stone is inscribed with the words "Western Heaven Dharma Realm", and the standing stone is engraved with "The Way of Enlightenment to Bodhi" and "The Mirror of the World is Clear". "Bodhi" is Sanskrit, meaning "enlightenment". It means that when you walk through this door, you have reached the paradise world with no worries and only happiness. But I walked in the opposite direction. Didn't I walk out of the paradise world? .
Fortunately, I didn't worry about it, because there was a huge "Heart Character Stone" in front of me. It is the largest stone carving in Putuo Mountain. It is said that Guanyin Bodhisattva once preached the "Heart Sutra" on this stone. The point in the center can accommodate eight or nine people, and the whole word can accommodate nearly a hundred people. It can be said to be "broad-minded". I can't use it more appropriately to describe Fulong at this time.
The year this word was engraved and whose handwriting it came from have not yet been discovered.
Lovers will leave a shadow on the heart stone to show their affection.
I didn’t expect that there is a cinema in Mount Putuo, and the show is about an important temple in Mount Putuo: Guanyinyuan.
The places with good Feng Shui are all occupied by Buddhists. Puji Temple is the oldest temple in Putuo Mountain and the largest temple. It is the main temple dedicated to Guanyin Bodhisattva in the whole mountain and the only one dedicated to the male Guanyin Bodhisattva. The temple is a must-visit place for worshipers and is the most popular.
The main entrance of the temple is closed all year round. What is the operation?
There is a hard-core allusion here. It is said that Emperor Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty lived in Puji Temple when he surrendered to Mount Putuo. He swam to Foding Mountain during the day and was so excited about the trip that he forgot to return. When he returned to Puji Temple, the gate of the temple was closed. The emperor knocked on the door and wanted to enter through the main entrance, but was refused. The young monk guarding the door said: "The state has national laws and the temple has temple regulations. This door can only be opened unless the emperor comes." Because he was worshiping incognito, Qianlong was speechless after hearing this, so he had to abide by the temple regulations and enter the temple through the small door on the east side. . The extremely unhappy Qianlong returned to the palace and issued an edict: From now on, this door cannot be opened. From then on, the main gate of Puji Temple was not easily opened. Only the emperor, the head of state or the new abbot could open it when entering for the first time. Ordinary tourists could only enter from the side doors on both sides.
Look at the size of a temple and its life-release pool. The two are directly proportional. The Fangsheng Pond in front of Puji Temple is also called Haiyin Pond. The water in the pond is accumulated by mountain springs and is about 15 acres wide. It was started in the Ming Dynasty. Whenever the midsummer night comes, the bright moon reflects on the pond and the fragrance of lotus hits people. The twelve sceneries of Putuo "Lotus" This is what "Chi Yeyue" is talking about. Tourists and pilgrims who stay in Putuo Mountain at night must come to enjoy this great scenery.
Puji Temple is so beautiful, it looks like it stepped out of a painting. I think it is the most beautiful temple in Putuo Mountain and a good place to film.
Three stone bridges lie across the lotus pond. The bridges lead to the big temple. The bridge in the middle is the emperor's exclusive road. This bridge is now called "Fugui Bridge"; the east bridge is used by the ministers of civil and military affairs, and its name is "Longevity Bridge"; the bridge on the west side is used by common people, and people call it "Ping An Bridge". They all have a good name. Buddha did no harm to anyone.
There is a lake-centre pavilion in the bridge, called the Bajiao Puji Temple Main Hall Pavilion, which is opposite the mountain gate of Puji Temple. Legend has it that Emperor Kangxi would come to this pavilion every time he came to worship Buddha. Wherever the emperor walked, tourists would naturally come to join in the fun.
Different from the grandeur of other temples, Puji Temple has a more refined and elegant atmosphere. There are rows of century-old trees in front of the temple, coupled with the green lake, it is like a landscape. Painting, this place is really suitable for both "entering incense" and "viewing".
Although the architecture of Puji Zen Temple is not overbearing, the architectural layout is strict and clear. Different temples perform their own duties, and pilgrims who burn incense and worship Buddha can get what they need.
The main hall is the Great Yuantong Hall, which houses the 8.8-meter-tall male statue of Guanyin Bodhisattva, the only one in the world. The hall is so large that hundreds of people can enter without feeling too wide, and thousands of people can ascend without feeling crowded. Therefore, it is called the "living hall". It is indeed true, otherwise how could it accommodate so many people doing morning classes.
After five dynasties of grace, the incense continues, and the number of people worshiping is not counted in the tens of thousands. Have you ever seen the tide of the sea? It is purple. Countless pilgrims and believers burn incense and worship Buddha here.
Looking at Puji Temple from across the bank, I feel detached.
Compared with Mount Wutai, Mount Emei, and Mount Jiuhua, Mount Putuo cannot be called a mountain in a grand way. It is more appropriate to call it an island. There are many unknown Zen monasteries on the mountain, which are also worth a visit. Next door The Tianhua Zen Temple is such a Zen temple. It was built in the Xianfeng period of the Qing Dynasty. The main hall is dedicated to the three saints Sakyamuni Tathagata, Manjusri, and Samantabhadra Huayan. The Zen monastery is not big, and there are very few people coming in. Compared with the flow of people in Puji Temple, it is completely different.
I am not a true worshiper of Buddha, but since I have come to Guanyin’s territory, I have to abide by the rules here.
A hundred meters away from the east side of Puji Temple, there is a Duobao Pagoda, commonly known as the Prince Pagoda. It was built in the Yuan Dynasty. There are Buddhist niches carved on all sides of each floor of the pagoda, enshrining the full lotus sitting Buddha statue. It belongs to the ancient Mongolian people. The Buddhist Tantra style believed by the rulers is the only oldest building in Putuo Mountain that has maintained its original appearance. It is also the only Yuan Dynasty stone pagoda in Zhejiang Province. It is very precious. It is the same as the Jiulong Hall of Fayu Temple, the Guanyin Monument of Yangzhi'an and Foding Mountain. The hornbeam trees are collectively known as the "Four Treasures of Putuo".
The gate was never open, and the courtyard wall separated it. This didn’t bother me. I stood on tiptoes, raised the camera above my head, and took a photo of it.
Next to the Duobao Pagoda is the Putuo Mountain Buddhist Museum. This museum is the first religious museum self-organized by my country's religious circles. It was formerly the cultural relics exhibition room of Puji Temple. There are many Buddhist artifacts and objects in it.
When I saw them, I thought I was in Tibet.
The urban area of Zhoushan opposite Putuo Mountain is also close to the sea, but there are few beaches, let alone beautiful beaches. However, Putuo Mountain has many beaches, such as Baibu Beach and Qianbu Beach, which are often visited by tourists. This time I only went to Baibusha.
Do you still remember the scene in the 1986 version of "Journey to the West" where the four people are walking on the beach? It was filmed in Baibusha~
This scene is located in Baibusha The middle reef slope extends into the sea, dividing Baibusha into two parts, commonly known as the lion's tail.
?
Affected by the tide and direction, the sea changed its character here and became like a docile woman.
The ocean and the land are harmoniously connected here. Baibusha is the best place for surfing and watching the sunrise, and it is also the best place to watch the Wofuluojia Mountain on the sea.
The sand here is pure and the beach shape is beautiful. The poem "Hundred Steps of Sand" by Hu Shaojia, a native of Hangzhou in the Qing Dynasty, goes: "The sand in front of the Prince's Tower is scattered like clouds in the wind. So far, the rolling stones are still there, and there is no slight flaw."
The tourists on the beach are either riding the waves, chasing and playing, or quietly stepping on the beach, all of them are happy.
When it comes to taking selfies, you can even take random pictures...
At one end of the beach, there is an exquisite hexagonal pavilion called "Zizai Pavilion" on a rock. According to legend, Guanyin Bodhisattva is sad Wisdom is a double circle. From compassion, it is called Avalokitesvara, and from wisdom, it is called Avalokitesvara. Sitting in the Zizi Pavilion, listening to the tide, watching the sea, listening to the Buddha's voice, cleansing the soul.
The most famous thing about Baibusha is this "Master's Stone", which is washed into a very strange shape by sea water and is also one of the rare stones in Putuo Mountain. If you think that the "teacher's stone" is a stone brought by the teacher, it would be superficial. It means that this stone can sharpen stubborn iron, beat angry waves, and its spirit can serve as a teacher.
The stone is engraved with the words, "Return to the shore".
Looking at the sky, clouds, and sea,
the inner Buddha nature suddenly awakens,
No one will remember the troubles of the mortal world.
When I arrived at Yueling Zen Monastery, I didn’t see any of the believers, and the tourists also disappeared, which made me wonder if this was on Mount Putuo.
In the nunnery, I heard two sounds, one was the rustling sound of the wind blowing through the leaves, and the other was the clear ringing of bells.
There are countless nunneries on the mountain. In a blink of an eye, we arrived at the Mahayana Zen Temple, which is also a large-scale temple, second only to Puji Temple and Fayu Temple.
Entering the door are the four heavenly kings of Maitreya Veda, and then there is the Yuantong Hall, which enshrines the "Water Moon Avalokitesvara Statue" known as the Oriental Mona Lisa. It is said that this is the best among the Avalokitesvara statues. .
The plaque above reads "Nectar is cool", which refers to the Shuiyue Guanyin in the temple. The radical of the word "liang" is three points of water, but it is not a typo.
The rear is the Reclining Buddha Hall. The first floor is dedicated to the Nirvana statue of Buddha Sakyamuni. It was originally carved from sandalwood. Now it is the white jade Reclining Buddha statue invited from Myanmar. It is the statue of Mount Putuo. The second largest Buddha statue. The Reclining Buddha is 7.6 meters long, with his right hand resting on his ear, lying sideways, with a peaceful and peaceful expression, representing the highest state of Buddhist nirvana.
On the left is another nunnery called Heming Chanyuan. It is now merged with Mahayana nunnery. There is also a pond in front of the nunnery.
Then I went to Shuangquan Zen Monastery and passed by with soy sauce. Forgive me, Amitabha.
When I saw the road ahead, I walked straight and arrived at Fayu Temple without knowing why. Buddhists believe that "Buddhism nourishes all living beings, just like rain moistens all things", so there is a saying of "Fayu". Fayu Temple is the back temple of Putuo Mountain and the second largest temple in the mountain.
Before entering Fayu Temple, there is a stone archway, towering into the blue sky, with "Haitian Buddha Kingdom" written on the front. After passing the archway, looking back, it says "Putuo Holy Land" on the back.
Behind the archway is the Release Pond, called Nichiren Pond, which is much smaller than the Haiyin Pond in Puji Temple. There is a Haihui Bridge on the pond, which was built in the Guangxu period of the Qing Dynasty. "Hai Hui" means that all Bodhisattvas gather together, and their merits are as deep as the ocean. The mountain road into the temple is full of steps. This elevated layout is not only exquisite and grand, but also embodies architectural aesthetics.
I walked up the curved stone steps, with yellow walls on both sides, which was very saturated.
The first hall on the central axis is the Tianwang Hall. The four characters "Fayu Zen Temple" are written hugely on the wall. The calligraphy is smart and simple, with the rhyme of Zhangcao.
This is a mountain-style building with double eaves. Between the eaves is the inscription "Hall of Heavenly Kings", which worships Maitreya Buddha, Wei Tuo Bodhisattva and the four heavenly kings.
There is another hard-core legend here. It is said that Zhu Yuanzhang stayed in this temple when he was a young monk in his early years. He was lazy when cleaning the Heavenly King's Hall and said to the Heavenly King, "Heavenly King, Heavenly King, can you please lift your feet?" "It's easy to wipe clean." The four heavenly kings knew that this was the future emperor of the world, so they listened to his words and raised their feet. After Zhu Yuanzhang finished wiping, he forgot to ask the heavenly king to put his feet down, so the feet of the four heavenly kings were hanging. .
Fayu Temple is a forest of ancient camphor trees, performing an ensemble of temples and tree roots. The two are entwined with each other and are inseparable. Some buildings are about to be swallowed up by the branches, and the sun shines through the gaps in the trees. Glittering, so wonderful~
The whole temple is grand and lofty, with extraordinary appearance, including the Tianwang Hall, the Jade Buddha Hall, the Kowloon Guanyin Hall, the Royal Stele Hall, the Main Hall, the Master Yinguang Memorial Hall, etc., in the Northern Song Dynasty Wang Anshi once praised it as "the autumn trees hold books, and the bells ring in the waves."
The female believer is worshiping the Buddha devoutly. I guess she is discussing life events with the Bodhisattva. So Fulong, what should I tell the Buddha?
Do more good deeds and don’t worry about your future. Peace and health are not as good as asking for thousands of dollars. After leaving Fayu Temple, I followed the signs and walked faster than a horse. I immediately saw Buchou Zizhulinyuan.
In "Journey to the West", every time Tang Monk was captured by a monster, Sun Wukong would fly somersaults thousands of miles to the Purple Bamboo Forest to ask for help from Guanyin. Over time, Sun Dasheng became a senior and destined person in Mount Putuo.
In my imagination, there should be a beautiful bamboo forest in the Purple Bamboo Forest. The Bodhisattva is sitting in the bamboo forest. However, it deceived me. There is no purple bamboo in the Purple Bamboo Forest. The so-called Purple Bamboo Forest is because of the stone profile here. There are purple patterns like bamboo leaves.
Zizhulin Temple is backed by a mountain and faces the sea, facing the sparkling Lotus Ocean and facing Luojia Mountain across the sea.
Going down, there is a Danzhi Pavilion, which is an excellent place to watch the sea. I feel that Putuo is really a holy land for spiritual practice, full of ethereal fairy spirit. How can I not chant sutras and pray here? Meditate.
There is a vast promontory valley in front of Zizhulin Temple, where the sea and sky are the same color, and the sea view is unparalleled.
This foreign monk was meditating naked and absorbing the spiritual energy of heaven and earth. At that moment, my heart was shocked.
As we all know, Mount Putuo is the dojo of Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva, so how did it become the dojo of Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva? This has to mention "reluctance to go to Guanyin Yuan".
Guanyin Temple is located next to the Zizhu Forest. It is the first temple in Mount Putuo. It is built on the rock wall and is only a few steps away from the sea.
The name of this temple is very interesting. Simply put, it means that the Bodhisattva did not want to go to Japan and would rather die than go, so it is called "Reluctant to Go". It turns out that Guanyin Bodhisattva doesn’t like Japanese people either!
Outside the hall there are Tuas Bridge, Dandan Pavilion, Guangming Pool, Anti-Japanese Stone Carvings and Chaoyin Cave, which constitute an exquisite scenic spot integrating courtyard, bridge, pavilion, pool, stele and cave. There are three buildings in the courtyard. A simple Buddhist temple.
Tuas Bridge, a white marble bridge across the sea, is said to have been crossed by Guanyin.
In the past, Guanyin refused to go, and today tourists also refuse to go, and they all take pictures.
Everyone plays mobile phones, including lay people and monks.
Chaoyin Cave is the best place on the island to listen to the sound of the ocean tide. It is one of the "three caves" in Mount Putuo. It is a natural cave. The name is a pun, because the cave handles ocean tides day and night. , like thousands of horses galloping, and also likened to "Chaoyin" as "Buddha's sound", like thousands of monks chanting sutras, day and night.
The entrance of this cave faces the sea and is open-mouthed. There are two gaps on the top of the cave, called "skylights". When the tide is high, the tide pours into the cave, and the sound of the waves and rocks colliding is like the Qiantang River. The Chaoyin of the Ancient Cave forms one of the twelve scenic spots in Putuo.
During the Jiajing period of the Ming Dynasty, there was a saying in Putuo Mountain that "Sacrificing one's body can become a Buddha, and burning one's fingers shows sincerity." Some people went to Chaoyin Cave to jump into the cave and sacrifice one's body in order to show their sincerity to the Bodhisattva. I am willing to burn my fingers in front of Guanyin Temple. Many tragedies happen every year. In order to dissuade people from their behavior, Li Fen, the governor of the general town, Chen Jiusi, the counselor of Ning Shao, and others erected a stone tablet between the Guanyin Temple and Chaoyin Cave, which was engraved with "It is forbidden to sacrifice one's life and burn one's fingers", and there were small words explaining: " Avalokitesvara's compassionate appearance is to save people from suffering. How can they be willing to ask people to sacrifice their lives and burn their fingers? If those who convert to Buddhism have faith and practice good deeds, they will naturally be fulfilled. If they sacrifice their bodies and burn their fingers, they will be guilty of setting up monuments to preach. If a village gangster dares to sacrifice his body and burn his fingers in Chaoyin Cave, the abbot monk will immediately stop him. If there is any intentional violation, he will be punished." Since then, these absurd behaviors have been stopped.
Perhaps there are too many innocent souls. The water here is not blue, let alone clear. It is so turbid that it overwhelms the Yellow River. Those who have never seen the Yellow River can appreciate it here first. Although the soup is gushing, it still stirs people's hearts.
When you come to Mount Putuo, you should meet the owner. Nanhai Guanyin is the new symbol of Mount Putuo. It is not far from Guanyin Temple. It stands on the hill at the southern end of Shuangfeng Mountain. The view is wide and there is no obstruction in front of you. No wonder Avalokitesvara likes this place.
The total height of the Guanyin statue in Nanhai is 33 meters, which means that Guanyin has 32 incarnations and 1 full-length statue. This statue is so handsome! He looked down at the joys and sorrows that came and went in the world. After many years, he still smiled and said nothing, not criticizing anyone.
Different from the usual Guanyin statues, she is not holding a purification bottle, but holding a rudder, presumably to protect fishermen who go out to sea according to local conditions.
Underneath the Guanyin statue are several round halls dedicated to Buddha statues. There are Buddha statues paid for by believers from all over the world. Pilgrims are bustling, worshiping from east to west, north and south.
Although this Nanhai Guanyin has little history, standing in front of this huge and magnificent Guanyin statue makes people involuntarily feel awe.
It is said that the bronze statue of Guanyin in the South China Sea was consecrated on September 29th of the lunar calendar in 1997. There were dark clouds on that day and there was no intention of clearing up. The scheduled consecration at 8 o'clock was postponed for 15 minutes. At 8:15, Master Jieren announced: "The consecration ceremony of the Guanyin Statue in the South China Sea has officially begun!" As soon as he finished speaking, the dark clouds over the Lotus Ocean south of the Buddha dispersed, and a ray of sunlight emerged from the clouds, shining directly on the Buddha statue. The golden light of the Buddha statue Shining, more than 4,000 believers and good women at home and abroad who were present at the scene saw this strange phenomenon and knelt down one after another to receive the Buddha's light. This strange phenomenon lasted until the end of the puja at 9 o'clock, and was captured live on local TV stations. Think about it, in a Buddhist holy land, it is normal to see some unreasonable scenes. Don't use scientific principles to get entangled in such natural phenomena.
Looking at the Guanyin in the South China Sea from a different angle, the treasure is solemn. If you have good thoughts in your heart, you will find the South China Sea everywhere.
This is the famous Nantianmen Scenic Area, not far from the return pier. Legend has it that this is the place where the Eight Immortals crossed the sea, and Zen Master Zhenxie, the founder of Zen Buddhism in Mount Putuo, once stayed here.
There is also Ciyun Temple in Nantianmen, which is a close neighbor of "Duangu Taotou".
Due to poor leg strength and the timing of the last ferry, I did not go to Huiji Temple, the third largest temple on the top of the mountain. If I were impulsive, I would have to waste hotel reservations in the city. Also Baotuo Temple, Luojia Mountain, and Fanyin Cave are also places I am unwilling to give up. If I have a chance, I will definitely come back.
After boarding the boat and leaving, Putuo Mountain lies quietly in the vast sea, watching the people coming and going, regardless of the way they came or the way back.
