How are sandstorms formed?
Dust weather refers to a weather phenomenon that the wind drags dust particles into the air and makes the air turbid. Sandstorm weather is one of the main disastrous weather affecting northern China. At the same time, strong wind, strong thermal instability and sand source are three important conditions for the formation of sandstorms as dynamic factors and material basis respectively. Strong wind is the driving force of sandstorm, and the source of sandstorm is the material basis of sandstorm. Unstable thermal conditions are conducive to the increase of wind power and the development of strong convection, thus carrying more dust and blowing higher.
At the same time, drought, little rain and high temperature are the weather and climate background of sandstorm weather; Excessive cultivation, overgrazing, and excessive firewood harvesting have caused vegetation destruction, exposed headlands, and rapid expansion of land desertification, which are the man-made reasons for the formation of sandstorm weather.

The sources of sandstorms affecting China can be divided into domestic sources and overseas sources. Overseas sources: Gobi desert in southeastern Mongolia and desert in southeastern Kazakhstan. Source areas in China: the central and western parts of Hunshandake Sandy Land in eastern Inner Mongolia, the border area between China and Mongolia in Alashan League (Badain Jaran Desert), Taklimakan Desert in southern Xinjiang and Tonggut Desert in Kurban Banner in northern Xinjiang.
