"Water Margin", also known as Loyalty Water Margin, was written by Shi Naian, a native of Xinghua, Jiangsu, in the late Yuan Dynasty and early Ming Dynasty. It is one of China's four classical novels. The word Water Margin first appeared in The Book of Songs, written by Shi Naian and edited by Luo Guanzhong. The original sentence is "Gu Fu, come to the DPRK to get horses, lead the west to the water margin, and as for the fork in the road". The short four sentences and sixteen characters explain the rise of a tribe, and use it to sing a story of transformation and development.

Outlaws of the Marsh is also one of the most epic works in China literature, with numerous versions and wide circulation. In other existing editions, tian hu and Wang Qing are not among the Baihui editions with earlier origins, and the Zhang Tianhu and Wang Qing parts in the simplified edition (simple and complicated text) system are different from the Complete Biography of the Water Margin (it is generally believed that the whole biography is based on the simplified edition). The book is based on chapter 120. The first 70 stories are about heroes going to Liangshan, and the last 50 stories are mainly about Song Jiang and his gang being wooed by the court and victimized by treacherous court officials.
