The surrounding walls are 7 meters high and 70 centimeters thick. The walls are compacted with concrete mixed with brown sugar and glutinous rice porridge, which is extremely hard. The walls are covered with gun holes, and the four corners have watchtowers to take care of each other, which is very defensive, reflecting the difficulties of Hakkas' migration and foothold in a foreign land in previous dynasties, and the awareness of prevention cultivated from this.
Sheng Mao Shiju's whole building has a rigorous layout and an atmospheric structure. The towers at the four corners of the paddock have the same shape, and the cornices are upturned. There are eight forks pointing to the sky on the roof, and the weather is magnificent. The main entrance is the entrance, the front and rear rooms, and the left and right four entrances; The surrounding houses embody the center, and clusters of clan ancestral halls surround the center, which embodies the unity of the family and the strictness of the patriarchal clan system. In addition to the main entrance, the outer door of the enclosure has a side door on the left and right, which is called "opening a hundred doors and closing a door".
