What’s going on with the rockery package in a residential building?

The residential building rockery package is a street-facing residential building located on Changshou Road, Shanghai. There is a 14-story rockery inside the building. Netizens jokingly call this residential building wrapped in a "rockery" a "mountain view room." It has 16 floors and faces the street. It is a relatively independent residential building, almost attached to the side of a 28-story residential building next door. Downstairs is Exit 2 of Changshou Road Station of Shanghai Metro Lines 7 and 13.

There are not many real residents in the building. Most of the residences are rented out to companies to run dance classes, gyms and other institutions. Online media reported that the "rockery" was added after the building was built. But the residents inside said that these "rockery" designs had always existed, and the sales department even claimed to have won some architectural award back then.

This building has been in existence for more than ten years. Staff familiar with the situation at the Changshou Road Sub-district Office to which the community belongs revealed that they had not received reports from residents in the area that this building had safety risks. "Because of the exterior design of this building at the time, there were no safety hazards, and there were no other feng shui or superstitions. Its living space has a property rights certificate, and the residents are normal."

As for why it happened in the first place. If there is such a design, has this design passed the relevant planning? The staff of the sub-district office said that the sub-district office does not understand these situations. After coordination by the Shanghai Putuo District Information Office, Fu Wenlan, the property manager of the community, said in an interview that there should be no safety hazards in more than ten years. Inspections are carried out every day and no problems have been found so far. This community is positioned to have mountains and water, and it was built in the form of a "rockery".

Zhou Zhiqing, deputy director of the Putuo District Planning and Land Management Bureau, also made it clear that through searching the files, this residential building wrapped in a "rockery" complied with the original planning approval conditions. "We looked through the files and found that the current location of the rockery existed in the original design. We also found the developer's manager. The internal structure of the rockery is a steel structure, and the outside is made of resin material."
