Why is only Wu Ye Temple particularly popular in Wutai Mountain?
First, the cool legend
Wu Ye Temple, also known as Wanfoge, is probably the highest incense temple in Wutai Mountain. It is located in Taihuai Town, adjacent to the Great White Pagoda. As for the so-called Wu Ye Temple, it's because there is a Dragon King Hall in the temple, where a golden-faced Five Dragon Kings are enshrined. According to legend, Wutai Mountain, formerly known as Wufeng Mountain, has an extremely harsh climate, dripping into ice in winter and extremely hot in summer, making it impossible for farmers to cultivate. Manjusri Bodhisattva came here to give a lecture, and when she saw people suffering, she went to the Dragon Palace in the East China Sea and borrowed a cool gem to solve the dragon stone. , changed the climate here. This cool gem was originally brought back by the five sons of the Dragon King to drive away the heat and enjoy the cool, so he followed Manjusri Bodhisattva to make a scene in Wutai Mountain and cut five steep peaks into five platforms. Do you want to come back? Xie Longshi? . Manjusri Bodhisattva soon surrendered to them and let them live at the top of the five platforms respectively. The King of Five Dragons was placed on the highest platform in Beiping, and was responsible for the rainfall in the Yun Geng of Wutai Mountain. People thanked him for the benefits he brought to Wutai Mountain, so they built a temple for him and renamed Wufeng Mountain Liang Qingshan. During the reign of Kangxi, in order to facilitate people to pray for rain, the Dragon King Hall was built in Wanfo Pavilion, and the Five Dragon Kings were invited to the temple from Beitai.
Go straight into the famous Wu Ye Temple, and you will find horses on both sides of the court outside the temple, which can only be seen by ancient emperors when they are on patrol. This is unique not only in Wutai Mountain, but also in the whole country. What's more interesting is the costume of the Five Dragon Kings in Wu Ye Temple, which is not like the bodhisattva that people usually know, but wearing a dragon robe to show the majesty of the ancient emperor and wearing a golden crown on his head. These answers come from an interesting legend.
According to legend, when the emperor shunzhi, the father of Emperor Kangxi, became a monk in Wutai Mountain, Emperor Kangxi came to Wutai Mountain to find his father. One night, on his way back to the palace, he was suddenly caught in a storm. Emperor Kangxi was very afraid. Suddenly, the Five Dragon Kings appeared in front of Kangxi. At this time, the Five Dragon Kings cast spells and released a fireball, which opened a way for Kangxi and led Emperor Kangxi back to his palace safely. The next day, Emperor Kangxi specially gave five dragon kings a dragon robe and half a pair of armor to thank them for their contribution to the rescue. From this legend, we can see that the local people worship Wu Ye very much, and the incense in Wu Ye Temple is also quite strong. Emperor Kangxi wrote it himself? Dragon ginseng? Two words. There are couplets on the Ming column: Lei Yin inspires a hundred valleys and benefits a hundred treasures; The dew and the wind drum everything up and contact everyone? . The big plaque hanging inside says? Guangji Wang lung bodhisattva? On the right side of the plaque, it says? What do you want? Four big characters.
Second, the incense is flourishing.
Many people come to Wutai Mountain and actually burn incense in Wu Ye Temple. When you come to Wutai Mountain in the morning, you must go to Wu Ye Temple to burn the first incense. It is said that Wu Ye loves the people like a child and is responsive. In front of the big incense burner in front of the temple, there are always countless good men and women, some are silently crossing their hands to make a wish, and some are praying devoutly. In the worship hall of Wanfo Pavilion, the walls are covered with plaques sent by willing people from all over the country. Of course, behind the plaque is a generous donation. Usually these plaques can only be hung for one month, because it won't be long before they are replaced with new ones. There is a more respectable way to make a wish, and that is to sing for Wu Ye. Inside the temple, there is a small theater opposite the Golden Dragon King Hall. Every day at eight or nine o'clock, gongs and drums will be played, and princes, gifted scholars and beautiful women will appear in black as usual, with little interruption throughout the year. Wu Ye Temple is a unique scenery of Wutai Mountain with loud gongs and drums and cigarette smoke.
