To find the coordinates of the times, we need to understand the characteristics of three times.
Since we are looking for the characteristics of this era, what are the characteristics of this era? I think there are three points.
1. The world is becoming more and more flat;
A man named Thomas L. Friedman wrote a book called the world is flat. There are three waves of globalization in the book: the first time Columbus discovered the New World, it was a period of global expansion with the country as the unit, absorbing production materials and markets on a global scale; The second time began in the Great Depression, World War I and World War II in the United States, which was a period of global expansion of multinational companies, but also to obtain production materials and markets; The third time, with the application of Internet technology, individuals began to expand globally. In other words, you may have studied very obscure Indian Sanskrit, but you can find a bosom friend in Germany and form an online community through the Internet. For example, in the past, the football match of American middle school students could not be broadcast through mass media, but now it can be broadcast through network TV. Millions of people can watch the game at the same time through the Internet. More and more, on a personal basis, you can get the information and services you want on a global scale. Giving individuals a lot of rights, called Empowerment in English, is an era of giving individuals more abilities. I interviewed Whitman, the president of Yi Bei, who was rated as the most powerful woman in the world. Because Yi Bei dominates many online transactions. I asked her at that time: Are you satisfied with this title? How does she understand power? She said: In fact, power has always given people a bad impression. Power is considered as a kind of power to control others. But she believes that in the new network era, power no longer means control. Because Yi Bei can't control online traders. Her strength lies in being able to help many people succeed. For example, help some people who are physically disabled and can't work normally, open a small shop in their own homes, realize normal income through online transactions, and live a relatively rich life. Therefore, in the Internet age, it is not what you are allowed to do and what you are not allowed to do, but what you can do, which may be very different from the previous world.
2. An era that needs imagination and innovation:
When we talked about intellectual property rights before, we always felt that Americans and Europeans gave us great pressure to protect intellectual property rights. But now, both the government and the people realize that protecting intellectual property rights means encouraging innovation. We hope that many products in the world are not only made in China, but also created in China (original by China). This kind of creativity can guarantee the long-term development of a country far more than simple manufacturing. Einstein said: Imagination is more important than knowledge. No matter in the familiar fields of medicine, other sciences and humanities, many important inventions and discoveries start from a hypothesis. Just now, I was discussing with Academician Han and Dr. Liu whether medical needs need imagination. Supposedly, you can't think of the human body, but the relationship between Helicobacter pylori and gastric ulcer and the idea of gene spirochete all come from imagination. A foreign professor once said that if students in China were given a hypothesis, they would make a good inference, but they were not the proponents of the hypothesis. However, I think that with the change of education system and social atmosphere, more and more people in China will put forward hypotheses, which can be verified.
As you have just seen, this is an electronic magazine named after me, which I started to do this year. It is a women's magazine for urban professional women. In just three or four months, from the third issue, this magazine has exceeded the download volume of 6.5438+0 million per issue. By the eighth and ninth issue, the download volume has exceeded 2 million. This is the innovation of our media people. Because in the past, newspapers were newspapers, magazines were magazines, and television was television. Now, through this electronic magazine, we can combine all the interesting things such as videos, computer animations and interactive questionnaires. That feeling, in the words of one of our chief editors, is like editing Harry Potter magazine every day. This is a new stimulus for American media people and audiences. For society, we hope that our society can reduce the cost of innovation and increase the return of innovation.
3. The third feature of the times is that the boundaries are constantly being broken and moving towards integration:
A week ago, I received a friend of a friend in Beijing. He is the medical director of Mount Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles, which is the most exclusive hospital in Hollywood. I asked him what he was doing here. He said he was here to develop business. I asked him what business he came to China to develop. He said: I know that doctors in China are very skilled and we can provide some cutting-edge medical technologies, such as brain surgery services. In other words, he came to China to develop patients. In the past, hospitals were relatively local and local. Now through the network, online consultation, remote clinical explanation and so on can be carried out, which is a great breakthrough. In addition, I interviewed some AIDS experts, who said that in the past, it was enough to understand the cause of the disease itself and treat it according to the cause. Now, in the treatment of AIDS, we must learn clinical psychology. Because these patients often bear huge social pressure and psychological burden. If these patients are not given psychological counseling, the therapeutic effect will not be fully reflected. Therefore, in the medical field, there are more and more cross-border learning exchanges, and people are increasingly regarded as a whole.
During May Day, I went to Dunhuang and felt the "weather of the Tang Dynasty" there. Even after a thousand years, it is shocking. It's not just the vividness and bright colors of those paintings, but the blending of Confucianism, Taoism and Buddhism, the vivid expression of characters and the diversity of costumes, which make you feel that the weather in the prosperous Tang Dynasty is actually a phenomenon of cultural integration. A mural left a deep impression on me, which painted many beautiful women in luxurious clothes. After the explanation, I realized that it was a frugal family in the local area at that time. This festival has allowed this family to rule in the local area for more than 100 years. So how did he maintain local stability and integrate with culture? He married his son to the princess of the western countries at that time, and his daughter to the monarchs and princes of various countries. Through the fusion of blood, the political and economic stability of a region is realized, and the prosperity of local culture is also guaranteed. I'm afraid it's hard to do it today by this blood relationship. What we need more is cultural integration. Although we have the technical conditions now, not everyone is ready. For example, language is a big problem. Also during May Day, I accompanied some American friends to Dunhuang first, and then to Lijiang. When I arrived in Lijiang, an American friend wanted to wait for a fax, so he said to the hotel waiter, I want my fax. Probably the waiter's language failed the test, so he didn't understand what it meant at first, then he suddenly realized and said, I know what the foreigner wants, and he wants sex. Just put some condoms in his room and made my friend laugh and cry. (Laughter). So language is a big problem. Especially when the 2008 Olympic Games is approaching, I am not worried about venue construction, traffic and air. I think these will be managed well. But there will be problems with the language. Not everyone can say hello and goodbye, but need deeper communication. Furthermore, it is the difference in thinking mode. For example, when I first went to the United States, I was not used to it. When we introduced China to foreign countries at home, we always said that China had "four great inventions", including Laozi, Confucius and Mencius, to illustrate our culture. But I find it hard to tell. Because there is no fixed phrase "four great inventions" in the international common language. There are many other major technological inventions and discoveries of scientific principles. If you tell people how our Confucius valued "courtesy", how he valued "benevolence" and how he popularized education and culture. Then I saw a China person who spit everywhere, a China person who made a loud noise in public, and a China person who didn't turn off his cell phone at the concert. I'm afraid it's no use telling people about Confucius and Mencius many times. According to statistics, there are 183 definitions of culture. Among them, there are material life levels, such as Jingdezhen porcelain; There are also aspects of spiritual life, such as our Kunqu opera, Beijing opera and martial arts. More importantly, it is also more intuitive, which should be at the level of lifestyle and way of thinking. Not long ago, I read the news that the creative team for the opening and closing ceremonies of the Olympic Games, with Spielberg as the consultant and Zhang Yimou and Chen Weiya as the directors, has been set up. I think the biggest problem they encounter is not how to show the weather of a soaring China, which is not difficult. It is not difficult to see the age of ancient civilization. The hardest thing is how to make people feel excited. It's not the deafening Ansai Wanren gongs and drums that can move people's hearts. But in today's China, it can move people. I think if this can be done, the East and the West in Wen Mingzhen can reach an exchange. What I just said is that at the level of our times, everyone can try to find their own position. Whether it is the integration of China and the world; Or innovate in their own academic and professional fields; Or through information technology, expand your knowledge search and acquisition scope, which is of great benefit to personal growth. As far as personal qualities are concerned, "going upstream" is admirable, but I think each of us is still very small. When designing our own growth path, we still have to conform to the trend of the times and follow the trend to promote the development of our own career.
Personal growth needs to find its own comparative advantage.
Although there is no difference between people, there are great differences. Once attending a forum, a professor said a point: one doesn't need to do everything well. In fact, as long as you do one thing well, you will have the next chance. I think it makes sense. Like many journalists I met, they said, Yang Lan, you are so lucky to interview so many heads of state and government that none of us have a chance. Actually, I started by interviewing a district chief. So if the warden doesn't interview well, don't interview the mayor; The mayor will interview the minister after the interview; Wait for the minister to finish the interview, then think about the deputy prime minister, prime minister and president.
I don't know much about medicine, but I also know that this comparative advantage also exists. Some medical students have good theories at school, but they are all thumbs and are not suitable for being surgeons in clinic. Some theories are not very sophisticated, but they can become "knives" in surgery with dexterous hands. This is that everyone has different comparative advantages.
Generally speaking, when a person has just graduated from college and started working, it is easy to think that I must do a meaningful job or a job that I am very interested in. In fact, there is absolutely no need to worry. You can do something that looks "overqualified" or completely transactional first. But if you can do better than others in this job, you don't need too much, and you will have the next chance to do bigger things. But if you do nothing, stop here and complain: I am better than them in other ways. That's useless. No one in this world wants to hear such words. People only care about the results of your work. So as long as you are a little better than others in one respect, you have a chance to grow.
Two years ago, kasyanov, then Russian Prime Minister, was interviewed only two days after his visit to China, which is my interview. It should be said that as a private media organization, it is difficult to get such an opportunity. So I was curious and asked him why he was interviewed by me. His entourage told me: this is interesting because I interviewed his deputy prime minister before. The Vice Premier told him that if you go to China, you should be interviewed by this female reporter. Her question is very good. I am very happy after listening to it. But I want to say that this kind of word of mouth should not be underestimated. Everything you do will have an impact on your future growth. I hope the positive effects outweigh the negative effects.
Why did I leave Zheng Da Variety at that time? This is a question that people have been asking me. I don't know if I have made it clear, if I have the courage to back down and if I have the spirit to learn. This is not the essence of the problem. Essentially, I don't think I'm good at variety shows. I can neither sing nor dance, let alone act in a sketch. I only performed magic once with Mr. Zhao Zhongxiang. What was it called "changing into a living person"? I was recognized by others before I went out. Magic has no effect at all. So I think I really don't have any artistic talent. I still do it honestly. I can do it well. What can I do? I may be influenced by my family since I was a child. I prefer reading and have the ability to learn. So I began to do talk shows in the future, and I insisted on reading relevant materials every time and watching everything as much as possible. According to others, it is stupid. The host relies on eloquence and quick response on the spot. I just don't think so. Take my interview program as an example, the degree of your preparation in advance is completely proportional to the effect of the program you do.
I still remember the first interview with Dr. Kissinger. At that time, I was still studying in the United States, and I just started to do talk shows, which was particularly inexperienced. The questions asked are all about one hammer and one stick. For example: Premier Zhou invited you to eat Beijing roast duck. How much did you eat? (Laughter). You have handled many important diplomatic events in your life. What are you most proud of? This kind of problem. Of course, I've seen people ask such questions on TV. Anyone who asks such a question is unprepared in advance. Later, on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and America, I interviewed Dr. Kissinger. At that time, I knew that I could never ask questions like Beijing roast duck again. Although it was only half an hour, our team collected all the relevant materials, from his papers and speeches when he was a professor at Harvard to his biography, such a thick stack of seven books. I feel dizzy after reading it. I don't remember what I saw. Although the interview was only 27 minutes, it was very effective. Really prepared a bucket of water, and finally only used a drop. But your knowledge reserve can help you grasp the direction of the problem on the spot. I remember the last question I asked him: this is a global era, with many opportunities for win-win and cooperation, but also strong conflicts of religion, race and culture. Where do you think our world will go? How long will peace last? He straightened up and said, you asked a very good question. Then he expounded his understanding of peace: peace is not absolute peace, but a temporary state of balance achieved by different forces in conflicts and contests. Combine his diplomatic ideas with the current world situation, including the Middle East, and make some analysis and explanation. After this interview, many diplomatic experts found it very profound. Although you can only use one or two questions after reading so much information, it is absolutely useful to prepare in advance. So I always thought I should do my homework. I am not a particularly clever person, but I am a very diligent person. Make up for your own shortcomings by doing homework.
As a reporter and talk show host, I may have a comparative advantage, that is, I can communicate with others easily. 1996, I cooperated with Oriental TV to introduce Broadway musicals and some social problems in the United States. One episode is about obesity. A lady weighing more than 300 Jin accepted my interview. As you can imagine, the general chair is not wide enough for her to sit on, so I found another chair, moved it myself, asked her to sit down and talk to her. Finally, she said, I never knew what it would be like for a reporter to interview in China. But I'm happy to be interviewed by you. I asked her why. She said that other reporters came to interview with questions prepared in advance and dug a few words from me and filled them in their articles. You're really interested in me. This sentence impressed me deeply. Therefore, whether you are interested in the other person in front of the camera or when you communicate with others, the other person can fully detect it. Your every move and your eyes are creating an aura, so I can create such an aura, which is suitable for talk shows.
At the end of last year, I interviewed Malaysian Prime Minister Badawi. When we studied the information in advance, we found that his wife had just died that year, and we thought we should ask this question. Because they have a good relationship. But the one sitting opposite you is, after all, the Prime Minister. It's rude to ask someone about the death of their wife as soon as they come up. After talking about many political topics, I want to find a way to let him speak for himself. So I decided to ask him: many things happened in the past 2005, but what influenced you the most? He said that 2005 was a sad year for me because my wife died. He spoke for more than ten minutes, telling his feelings with his wife, her last days, very well. After the interview, his press secretary said that you China journalists are really capable, because our Prime Minister never talks about personal life in public. I think my aura covers him.
So this is the excavation of my comparative advantage. In fact, everyone here has their own comparative advantages. You can consider this problem. Of course, this will not be known from the beginning, just by trying to do different things. For me, I have been doing TV for seventeen years, and I have experienced many setbacks in the middle. As you may know, Sunshine TV was established in Hong Kong in 2000. Although I was doing it with a humanistic ideal, I still have no regrets. However, because the business model does not conform to the existing market rules, I have indeed experienced many business setbacks. This makes me very upset, because I feel that I have worked so hard. Even when I was pregnant, I was still in business negotiations. Growing up, I was taught that if you work hard enough, you will succeed. But it turns out that this is not the case. If at first, your strategy and your positioning are biased, no matter how hard you try, you can't succeed.
Later, I went to China Europe Business School in Shanghai to take a CEO course. A teacher talked about the difference between a businessman and a soldier. The soldiers were ordered to hold their ground, even if they hit the last bullet and died. The businessman seems to be in a hall now, which door I will go out at any time. We are always looking for opportunities to move, constantly in and out, in order to obtain the greatest commercial benefits. So after listening to it, I know very well-I am not cut out to be a businessman myself. Although I can work hard, in my bones, this is not my comparative advantage. For the first fifteen years of my career, I have been doing addition. As the host, I asked the director: Can I write my own lines? After writing the lines, I asked the director: Can I be an editor myself? After editing, I asked the director: Can I be a producer? As a producer, I thought: Can I be in charge of several programs at the same time? After being in charge of several programs, I wonder if I can run a channel. I have been doing addition in my life and adding it to Sunshine TV. I know that in life, you may have only one or two comparative advantages.
After a series of additions, I think it's time to start subtraction. Because I think I need a balanced life. I can't go on working like this. So I started to do subtraction. So today I want to position myself as a cultural person who understands the laws of the market and knows how to communicate with the world. While being a good host, I hope to engage in more social welfare activities. Therefore, you may be able to better understand your comparative advantage in failure. Of course, I also hope that everyone can understand their comparative advantages and disadvantages without paying too much.
Personal growth needs to clarify the relationship between people and themselves.
It is often said that this person has multiple personalities. In fact, each of us has multiple personalities. Consistency, no chaos, then we are gods, not people. But can we pursue a relatively complete personality through growth? I think it is possible to have such an opportunity. Although everyone has different ideas about education reform: quality education should be carried out, because the score education is not good, quality education has later become the cultivation of skills such as learning piano and drawing. But it is not clear whether this has cultivated imagination and creativity. I think the most lacking, starting from kindergarten, should be mentioned on the agenda, which is personality education.
You will hear a word integrity in many parts of the world, which is the integrity of personality. As human beings, we should have dignity and a code of conduct, which is exactly what we lack in education. In fact, everyone should have this experience: whether people are successful or not, the greatest happiness and pain of people come from the spiritual level.
I remember interviewing Cui Qi, an American Chinese who won the 1998 Nobel Prize in Chemistry at Princeton University. He said: He was born in the poorest rural area in Henan Province. He never studied before he was a teenager, but raised pigs at home. At this time, I had an opportunity to study abroad. His mother made some steamed buns with the only flour in the house and gave them to him. Tell him: you should go out and study hard. Only in this way can you have a future. At that time, he didn't want to go out, so he asked his mother: When can he come back? His mother said that you can come back to see us when the autumn harvest comes. So he left with a distant relative. Unexpectedly, after the war, he left, never came back and never saw his parents again. Having said that, I asked, "What would Cui Qi do today if your mother didn't insist on sending you away?" Actually, my question is induced. I want him to say that people will still be poor without education. Cui Qi's answer greatly surprised me: "I really don't care. If I had stayed in the countryside, maybe my parents wouldn't have starved to death. " Because his parents starved to death in the late fifties. His words gave me a great shock. I often tell this story on other occasions.
Although I interviewed him on 1998, after so many years, someone asked me who impressed me the most, but I still meant him. Whether the Nobel Prize is a success or not should be regarded as a success, which is beyond the reach of many people all their lives. But in front of family and human relations, it is not as important as human life. So as I said before, our era is an era that encourages and inspires everyone to pursue success. But beyond success, is there anything else, such as personality, that is the more important foundation and cornerstone of life?
Another interview that impressed me deeply was an interview with Ms. Wang. She gave me the impression that it was an old revolution. In fact, no one knows that she is the first female master of nuclear physics in China. And now everyone wants to get the opportunity. At that time, she had, studying abroad, full scholarship and so on. But as a young man with ideals at that time, she had her own pursuit and resolutely went to Yan 'an. Everyone knows the later story. But what impressed me most was in a special era. You can imagine the pressure she experienced at that time. It was an avalanche of pressure, which could tear individuals apart and devour them. But she did not betray her husband. She said that Liu Shaoqi was criticized at that time, and she was beside him. At a critical meeting, Liu Shaoqi stood in the center of the stage and was beaten. Desperate, she ran to him, took his hand and fought with him. This is definitely not something that ordinary people can do. But what moved me most was not her principles and loyalty to her feelings in the catastrophe. But after that special time, she told me that there was a staff member beside her who taught her little daughter to sing songs that beat her parents and encouraged her to sing in front of the king. It is conceivable that this design is very despicable and vicious. I asked her: Did you find this person later? She said, I don't want to know. If I want to know, this man will have bad luck. So I didn't ask at all, and I didn't investigate it. Therefore, she is also an interviewer who gave me a great shock; After suffering great injustice, I think it is beyond the reach of ordinary people to forgive and not pursue it. These spiritual impacts and influences, including my outlook on life, have had some very great influences.
There is no doubt that our society is prosperous now, everything is under construction and there is great hope. People have the American dream, and we can also have the Chinese dream, such an era. You all have good prospects. But at present, the pressure of survival is also great, and many people have no sense of security and psychological balance. Medically, I am afraid it is also the deep-seated cause of many diseases. To cultivate personality, I think people who study medicine, in particular, have a particularly strong connection under this cultural background and edification. If people-oriented is concerned, nothing is more people-oriented than doctors. Medicine was called "benevolence" in ancient China.
The cultivation of doctors' personality was vividly interpreted by Hippocrates and Sun Simiao. I'm afraid you already know that I'm teaching fish to swim, but when I looked up a passage in Sun Simiao's Great Doctor Sincerity, I was particularly moved: "All great doctors must calm their nerves, have no desire, show great sorrow first, and swear for spiritual suffering." If someone comes to ask for help when he is sick, don't ask him whether he is rich or poor, always young, jealous of friendly friends, China people, ignorant people and equal. All these are like the thoughts of a close relative. Don't look forward to the future, think about good or bad, and cherish life. Seeing his distress, if you have it, it is deep sorrow. Do not avoid danger, day and night, cold and heat, hunger and thirst, fatigue, concentrate on saving, no effort. So I can be a good doctor all my life. "I think that mortals become Buddhas, and this is the most important thing." But I think he put forward very high personality and moral requirements for doctors. I don't need to say anything, everyone feels this way. Such a true people-oriented spirit is of great significance to our prosperous and somewhat noisy society today.
We hope to see a harmonious society full of love. Of course, there will be some discordant voices here. I also wrote on my blog: In this world, not everyone has something called a heart. That's because a few days ago, I saw Shenzhen singer Cong Fei help more than 300 poor students before his death. But when someone interviewed these students after his death, some students said: How do I know what his purpose is? A reporter asked: Cong Fei's family life was also very poor when he died. If you had known, would you have helped him? Please note that the reporter asked you what you knew at that time, which is completely hypothetical, because he is no longer alive. The answer is: how can I help him? I only earn three or four thousand yuan a month. That's very legitimate. Please note that the people who said these words are all people who have received his help. So as a bystander, everyone feels very chilling. What's wrong with our society?
You may not succeed, but you have to grow.
In the week of Mother's Day this year, the program "Women in the World" you saw was that I interviewed a mother named Pan Mi. She is from Jilin. She holds a middle management position in a foreign company and earns a good income. She is already very good in the local area. She gave up all this and went to Dalian with some friends to open a children's village to adopt the children of single-parent prisoners. Here's a concept for everyone: More than half of the criminal offences in China are teenagers, and 30-40% of juvenile crimes are the children of prisoners. So it's a great thing for her to do it. It not only gives these children love, but also adds stability to our society. Of course, these years have been very hard. Her own son, who hasn't seen his mother for a long time, wrote a composition entitled "Please allow me to cry", saying: My life is too depressing, and my mother is not with me every day, so I have no chance to tell people about my troubles. I really want to cry in the wilderness. The composition written by a teenager made me feel very moved. I asked Pan Wei at that time: Is this your own child? How can you take care of the children over there if you can't even take care of your own children? Pan Mi said honestly, I don't know what to do. I'm leaving. What should the children over there do? An audience put it well: this is the lack of our society. We should not make Pan Wei face such a choice. What is our society doing? Therefore, depending on people's physical diseases, there are also many diseases in our society. We need to work together to overcome it and treat it. It is for these reasons that I hope to spend more time on public welfare undertakings in the future.
I set up the Sunshine Culture Foundation, hoping to promote the popularization of charity culture, charity training and so on. Someone asked: What do you want? I find it hard to say. You feel motivated to do it, and you have a great psychological satisfaction after doing it. I think in the future, when you reach out and pull a patient back from death, you don't need to be asked: What do you want? You want to earn your salary. Of course not. I believe that when you do this, your heart must be filled with great satisfaction and happiness. I hope this happiness will be doubled and our society will become more harmonious.
Finally, I want to say that everyone is growing, and this growth is a dynamic process of continuous development. Maybe you have reached a balance in a certain occasion and period, and this balance is short-lived, which may be fleeting and constantly broken. Growth is endless, and many things in life are difficult to grasp. Even if it is love, you may change, and that person may change. But growth can be grasped, which is a commitment to yourself. Although we can't become Liu Xiang no matter how hard we try, we can still enjoy running. Some people may hinder your success, but no one can stop your growth. In other words, you can't succeed in this life, but you can't help growing up.
