For patients with lipid deficiency, it is not water, but oil. Oil is secreted by meibomian gland, and oil is wrapped around water to prevent water from evaporating. This kind of patients should mainly use artificial tears, supplemented by oil.

So far, there is no good treatment for patients with mucin deficiency in China, and artificial tears with mucin-like function can only be used instead. In recent years, eye drops promoting mucin secretion have been put on the market abroad, and there may be such eye drops in China in the near future.
