Sishui returns to the hall, a symbol of a patio

I don’t know how long it has been since I watched TV. Now the TV is a stranger to me and is just a decoration at home.

To feel guilty, I turned on the TV apologetically tonight, first watched the news broadcast for a while, and then switched channels to watch other programs. I still don’t remember what program it was.

I was eating and watching TV at the same time. When I was about to finish the bowl of rice full of positive energy, I saw a program introducing Meizhou, Guangdong.

I’m talking about a house built by overseas Chinese in Meizhou in their hometown in Meizhou. It’s a house that I envy very much. It’s a big house and can accommodate the whole family.

The house has a patio. A commentator said that the patio of the house is the Four Waters Returning to the Hall. In traditional Chinese culture, water is wealth, and the patio is meant to receive wealth from all directions.

Nowadays, houses in rural areas rarely have this kind of layout. With Westernization, we can no longer see this meaning.

The house in my rural home is also built according to the courtyard layout, and it also has a patio. Later, my father built the patio because he was worried that the patio floor would become slippery when it rained.

The year before last, a gentleman said that if you build a patio, you will not be able to see the light of day, you will not have the opportunity to get ahead, and there will be no scholars in your home.

Thinking about it, it seems reasonable. None of the younger generations have good academic performance.

In fact, I have always disagreed with my father and brother building the patio.

A house should be a communication link between heaven, earth and people. Building a patio means blocking yourself from heaven’s grace and blessings.

Rain is a blessing from God and can nourish people in Yangzhai.

Rich families, especially palaces, always have patios to connect heaven and earth and allow people to bathe in the blessings of heaven.

So, last year, I decided to remove the patio cover.

After the demolition, the house is brighter and the sunlight can shine directly. I really feel much more comfortable.

This is not a matter of feudal superstition. It is the ideal pattern of the unity of nature and man that the Chinese value, and a natural manifestation of Taoism.

Nowadays, courtyard-style houses are no longer built in rural areas. In addition to the problem of land resources, a big reason is the lack of traditional culture and the failure to understand the mystery of traditional culture.

The layout of the courtyard is square, stable, simple, peaceful, gentle and honest, which can also reflect Confucianism and the character of the Chinese people.

I still like to see such a house and live in such a house, which is stable and comfortable.
