What hazards are likely to be caused by typhoons?
Typhoon is a very destructive and disastrous weather system. Its hazards mainly come from three aspects:
First, it brings harm from strong winds. The maximum wind force near the center of a typhoon is generally above level 8. Such wind force will bring great disaster to the affected areas.
The second is heavy rain disaster. Typhoons are one of the strongest rainstorm weather systems. In areas where typhoons pass through, they can generally produce 150 mm to 300 mm of rainfall. A few typhoons can produce extremely heavy rains of more than 1,000 mm. In 1975, Typhoon No. 3 produced extremely heavy rains in the upper reaches of the Huaihe River, creating the extreme heavy rains in mainland my country and forming the "75.8" flood in Henan.
The third is storm surge disaster. Generally, typhoons can increase the water content of coastal seawater. The maximum water increase along the coast of Jiangsu Province can reach 3 meters. Typhoons "9608" and "9711" increased the water flow, causing super-historical high tides along the Jiangsu coast.
When typhoons pass through, they often bring violent storms and cause huge waves on the sea surface, seriously threatening navigation safety. The increased storm water brought by the typhoon after its landfall may destroy crops, various construction facilities, etc., causing huge losses to people's lives and property.
