Text/Ye Mint

First of all, a statement: The hand-painted watercolor pictures are copied from the illustrator Ya Ya's ancient watercolor collection "Ci of Flower Girl". I like her painting style very much.

The title is a farewell poem by Du Mu, which describes a beautiful girl:

“Pingping is more than thirteen years old, and the cardamom leaves are in early February.

It’s better to roll up the bead curtain than to roll up the bead curtain in the spring breeze.”

As usual, I will give you a finished picture first, and I will call it “Cardamom” (actually this is a semi-finished picture. Why put the semi-finished product? Because the finished product was ruined by my stupid painting. How did it get ruined? Readers, please be patient and read on, we will slowly find out):

No. Step one: draw line drawing with pencil.

Many people who are new to watercolor, including myself, often wonder: Do they need to draw line drawings? Why do some people draw pictures without line drawings?

I drew a paragraph Over time, and based on my own experience, the answer will vary from picture to picture and from person to person. For example, if you draw relatively simple pictures, or freehand pictures such as flowers, trees, etc., you don’t need to make line drafts. You can do it randomly and freely on the spot, and you might get some surprises. However, if the picture I am painting now is more complicated, I must do a line drawing, otherwise it will definitely be too difficult to look at! (Of course, some professional watercolor paintings may not require line drawing. It’s hard for our generation to compare here, so it’s not within the scope of the discussion~)

Some people may ask: Why can’t I always draw line drawings well? I always don’t draw well? My answer is: I think If it doesn’t look good, be sure to erase it and correct it carefully! Paint until it looks pleasing to your eyes! No one’s painting can be completed overnight. Even if it is a large painting, it must be revised and painted patiently over and over again, so how about you and me who are just learning watercolor? ?Painting requires calmness. It took me more than an hour to draw the line drawing of "Cardamom". Yes, it took more than an hour. Especially the hand part was so difficult to draw that my paper was almost scratched. There is no shame in drawing slowly, but there is shame in drawing fast and poorly.

Because I forgot to take a photo when I finished the line drawing, the face is drawn in the picture below.

Here are the steps for the face:

① First, dip a brush in water and apply it gently on the face.

② Dilute yellow with plenty of water, and add a little red. Use a brush to apply to semi-dry face, ears, neck and other skin (avoiding eyes).

③ Dilute red with plenty of water and apply around the eyes to create a shy and flushed effect.

④ Use a small brush to draw eyebrows. Pay attention to the eyebrows being soft and not too thick, otherwise they will look like Crayon Shin-chan. The middle part of the eyebrows should be slightly darker, and the tail of the eyebrows should be slender. Because it is an ancient style, the more tender and watery the painting, the better.

⑤ Eyes. Use turquoise diluted with water to draw on the eyeball, use black to draw the center of the eyeball, be sure to leave highlights, so as to create the effect of "a pair of pupils with autumn water". It should be noted that the eyelashes should be very light and light, seemingly there or not, and should not be thick and hard, separated from root to root. Otherwise, they will become fly's legs brushed with thick mascara, completely losing the ancient feeling.

Step 2: Draw hair.

Use black and water to dilute it slightly. In order not to look stiff and to blend in with the color of the face, you can add a little red to the black. Dip it into the hair with a brush and apply it to the hair. Pay attention to the hair strands in the bun, as the details will make the picture appear more delicate.

Step 3: Draw gauze sleeves and skirt straps.

Use the first step to draw the face and draw the skin of the arms. Then dilute it with grass green and plenty of water, and apply it gently on the sleeves.

Don't paint thickly in layers. You must use a large amount of diluted light green to paint lightly, so as to create the light and thin texture of the gauze sleeves.

For the skirt part, use orange and water, and apply it flatly on the skirt. Don't stick to one shade, which will look too dull. You can blend it with a slightly darker orange to highlight the layering.

Step 4: Draw the skirt.

Wet the skirt of the skirt with clean water, dip a brush into grass green, and lightly apply it on the semi-dry paper, then deepen it layer by layer and blend it layer by layer. This process can be done at any time. Be more cautious, keep revising and polishing until you are satisfied.

The color of the part close to the streamer can be slightly darker because of the shadow. You can use darker green to draw folds and vertical lines at chest level to make the picture change from a flat surface to a three-dimensional one.

Step 5: Draw the house on the left.

Because I didn’t master the skills well for the house part, it actually took me a long time to draw it, but I still couldn’t get the ethereal fairyland feeling in the original picture.

My clumsy technique is: start with light colors and deepen them over and over again.

Use black to deepen the green, add a lot of water to dilute it, apply the first coat first, and pay attention to leaving the window part. The black deepens and the second smudge is applied. Then deepen the green color for the third layer. This part involves carefully comparing the original image, blending it repeatedly, and finally painting the window part. Without going into details.

Step 6: Draw the moon rabbit on the right side.

Dilute orange with water and apply evenly on the full moon part. While the painting is still wet, add light red and then blend it. In order to create an ethereal and illusory effect on the moon, you can use a tissue to absorb the color from the right hemisphere to create a hazy feeling.

Finally draw the Moon Rabbit. You can add some more light red to the limbs and ear tips of the Moon Rabbit to create a cute look.

Step 7: Perfect the details such as the osmanthus branches.

Use a small pen to draw the osmanthus branches, headband, earrings and other details. Whether a painting is exquisite or not mainly depends on the details, so don't mess around with the details just because you are impatient. For example, the leaves of osmanthus branches should be dyed in different colors, and the branches should be slender. Earrings should have high shine to highlight the crystal clear feel of the jewelry.

Improve the pleat details on the skirt, embellished the gauze sleeves with diamond-shaped dark patterns (yes, that’s right! There are dark patterns on the gauze sleeves, did you see it~), wait for the painting to dry You can stamp it with your favorite seal (well, I stamped it badly).

If the picture stayed at this moment, how beautiful it would be! You should never do it later!!!

Let the beauty stay for a while longer, with tears in your eyes .

The last step: continue to look for deficiencies and improve details.

This step is actually very important. As mentioned above, whether a painting is exquisite or not mainly depends on the details.

So, I thought my lips were not perfect enough and wanted to fill in the lip line.

Then, my!hand!is!!!!

I actually shook my hand and ordered a matchmaker’s mole for the little girl!!!

Ahhhhh! If there is a regret medicine in the world, I will definitely drink it all!!!

A good painting. So sad. Tears.

Although my mood was completely ruined, I still had the patience to finish drawing some details. For example, add eyes to the jade rabbit, and add small embroidery patterns to the skirt.

Okay!!! Dang dang dang!!! Still need to spread the flowers!!! It took more than eight hours and I finally finished the painting!!!

Last picture Compare the pictures. The picture on the left is my copy, and the picture on the right is the original picture from the album "Ci of Flower Girls" by the illustrator Ya Ya.

I still feel pretty good about myself, except for the matchmaker mole that makes me look bad. . . After all, I am self-taught, and I have only studied for half a year, so there is still a lot of room for improvement. Well, you have to learn to encourage yourself!

Yes, the girl in "Cardamom" is finished like this!

If you think it's good, just click "Love" to encourage me. , I really need encouragement! Let me show you my thoughts!!! Original hand-painted watercolor character illustration·Butterfly

Last week I received an invitation from a topic editor to help them draw illustrations based on the selected article.

As a late-stage procrastinator, I was really embarrassed to have delayed giving them the picture for a week_(:_ ∠)_

That story is probably about a woman who experienced life and death and then recovered from a depression. The patient transformed into a strong woman in the workplace and then refused the request of the lover who abandoned her at that time to get back together. blabla (I am a single person and don’t understand love c(`Д_)ノ┻━┻) Interested friends can go to the World Affairs topic Take a look

As usual, I’ll put a finished picture first. It’s very simple: a woman grows butterfly wings, symbolizing transformation, it’s so simple and crude! ε-(__`;) The author of the article seems to like the color blue very much, and always uses blue to describe this woman, so I also used it Blue is used as the main color of the picture,

for drafting. Since I want to process the picture into a relatively pure color effect, and also expect that some parts will only be outlines, in order to prevent the picture from being too single, the line drawing needs to be drawn relatively thin, down to every strand of hair (there is no way not to do it) I was afraid that my hand would ruin the line drawing_(:_ ∠)_)

Then I started coloring. The first is the hook line. I have a habit of chewing the hardest ones first. So I started to tease my hair. Although they are all outlined in blue, there should be some changes so that they are not too monotonous. The lines should have changes in density and thickness. At the same time, I also changed the light and shade. I used dark blue for the dark parts and light lake blue for the bright parts.

As for the smoothness of the lines, there is nothing to say. You still have to practice, otherwise your hands will shake_(:_ ∠)_

After finishing the hair, there are other lines except the wings. By the way, the eye color is also improved. They all use blue, very quickly~ε-(__`;)

Then you can add shadows, just use light blue and purple to express the relationship between light and dark, use light red Paint the lips. Why use purple? Uniform colors look better (I think)

Finally draw the wings. This wing variety belongs to the most beautiful butterfly in the world - the Morpho, the goddess of light. It looks like this

Since the character on the right is only outlined and colored with light colors, in order to prevent the proportion of the picture from being imbalanced, the wings on the left cannot be painted too heavily, otherwise the left side will appear too solid and the right side will appear too solid. Too weak. The treatment here is more transparent.

First use the wet painting method to smudge the light blue within the wings. Pay attention to leaving the white patches on the wings white. After it dries, use a slightly darker blue to outline details, such as the meridians of the wings.

Then, erase the pencil lines of the initial draft. The colored areas are difficult to erase, so try to be as light as possible when drafting.

The last step is to spray. In order to embody the flash of the Morpho butterfly, the goddess of light, dip a hard-bristled toothbrush into white paint, then pluck the bristles with water-soaked fingers and spray white dots on the painting. The size of the dots can be controlled by moisture. The less water you put on your hands, the smaller the dots will be when sprayed. The density can be controlled by the distance from the paper surface and the number of sprays. You will know the specific effect by trying it yourself~ε-(__`;). Finally, dip the pen in white paint and add some dots according to the effect, and it’s done~
