Zhaoxing Scenic Area, a national 4A-level scenic spot, is one of the four scenic spots in Liping Dong Township National Scenic Area! Located in the southeast of Liping County, at the junction of Guizhou, Hunan and Guangxi provinces, it was selected as one of the "Six Most Beautiful Ancient Rural Towns in China" by "China National Geographic".
The scenic spot is centered on Zhaoxing Dong Village and covers eight villages: Tang'an, Xiage, Xiage Shangzhai, Yilun, Jitang, Dengjiang and Shangdiping. The Dong Village and Sa Sui Mountain, the sacred mountain of the Dong people, form a Dong cultural tourism area of about 34 square kilometers with a population of nearly 10,000. The Drum Tower is the symbol of the Dong Village. It is a multi-story pagoda-like wooden building with dense eaves. It is made of fir columns and boards penetrated with tenons without the need for nails or rivets. As the political and cultural activity center of the Dong Village, the Drum Tower has functions such as gatherings, discussions, sacrifices, entertainment and leisure. Almost all the drum towers occupy the best positions in the village or "group" for feng shui and sightlines.
On the clear and calm Zhaoxing River, there are five flower bridges of similar sizes and different styles. These flower bridges are all made of fir, with staggered eaves and teeth. All beams, columns, beams, and boards are all connected and joined together with tenons and buckles, without the need for nails or rivets. After years of wind, rain, and movement of people and animals, it has not become slightly loose or deformed by the wind. The exquisite craftsmanship is breathtaking.
Zhaimen is an extension of the historical "residents in the fence". In the traditional Dong village, every intersection entering and exiting the village has a village gate. Like Drum Tower and Huaqiao, the village gates are all wooden structures, mostly with four pillars and three bays, with two side doors guarding the middle door. The double eaves on the top of the mountain are decorated like Ruyi bucket arches, which means three buckets and three liters, symbolizing happiness and prosperity.
