Where is the former site of the founding place of the First Detachment of the Workers’ and Peasants’ Guerrillas in Central Fujian?
The former site of the establishment of the first detachment of the Central Fujian Workers’ and Peasants’ Guerrillas, the Huguo Guanyin Temple, is located in Heshan Village, Guanban Town, Lianjiang County.
In June 1932, the Fuzhou Central Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China made the launch of the guerrilla armed struggle of workers and peasants in northeastern Fujian centered on Lianjiang and Fu'an the top priority of the municipal committee's work. To this end, the Municipal Party Committee has made thorough and detailed preparations. In mid-June, Tao Zhu, Minister of the Military Department of the Fujian Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China and Secretary of the Fuzhou Central Municipal Committee, who was well versed in the art of military struggle, went to Lianjiang to conduct an on-site inspection of the topography and social conditions of Guanban Heshan Village. It was learned that Heshan Village has high mountains and cold water, and the land is barren. The more than 30 households in the village are all extremely poor and make a living by collecting firewood and renting land from landlords. Moreover, a party branch has been secretly established in Heshan Village. Tao Zhu and Yang Erchan agreed to open up Heshan as a guerrilla base. Special Branch Secretary Yang Erchang sent Party members Lin Jizao and Lin Jitong to use the "seafood" business as a cover to go to the Fuzhou Central Municipal Party Committee Cangshan Fanchuanpu Transportation Station to receive a red flag, a bugle, five swords, etc. issued by the Municipal Party Committee. Military supplies were secretly transported back to Lianjiang-Guanban Heshan Village.
In the early morning of June 19, a loud bugle sound sounded in the Guanyin Pavilion of Heshan Huguo Temple. Yang Erchang led the former secret service team to line up and assemble in front of the Guanyin Pavilion to hold a solemn and solemn flag-raising ceremony. During the ceremony, representatives of the municipal party committee presented the flag to the guerrilla leaders. The flag was embroidered with "The 1st Detachment of the Chinese Workers' and Peasants' Red Army Guerrillas in Central Fujian" and was fluttered on a tall bamboo pole. This guerrilla force was later also called the "13th Detachment of Workers' and Peasants' Guerrilla Detachment in Central Fujian" by the local people. The municipal party committee appointed Lin Bingguang (also known as Wang Zhaoxun, who later rebelled) as the detachment leader. The political commissar was originally planned to be Chen Xinggui (that is, Chen Xinggui) who was working in other places. Because he was not in place yet, Yang Erchang took over the post. There are 20 guerrillas, with the main backbones including Yang Yuke, Chen Kaiqiu, Lin Jitong, Lin Jizao, Lin Peili, Huang Huanglong, etc. The Lianjiang Special Branch of the Communist Party of China prepared in advance a fluent and smooth 6-word folk allegro poem "Announcement of the First Detachment Headquarters of Workers' and Peasants' Guerrillas in Central Fujian" and printed it into small leaflets for widespread distribution in urban and rural areas of the county.
The Huguo Guanyin Temple has a construction area of 380 square meters and a brick and wood structure. The original site was damaged and was rebuilt in 1966 by villagers raising funds. The temple is five rooms wide and three rooms deep, with a hard top. In front of the temple, there is a monument erected by the Lianjiang County People's Government. It is made of bluestone, 2 meters high and 0.8 meters wide. On the front is engraved "Old site of the establishment of the first detachment of the Central Fujian Workers' and Peasants' Guerrillas".
