The origin of the name
The Mid-Autumn Festival is also called the correct moon, and the record of the reunion festival was first seen in the literature of the Ming Dynasty. Yu Zhong, a visitor to the West Lake, said: August 15th refers to the Mid-Autumn Festival. People send moon cakes as a sign of reunion. The scenery of the Forbidden City also says: August 15th, offering sacrifices to the moon, cakes are round, melons are deformed, and lotus flowers are carved with petals.
At first, the Moon Festival was held on the autumnal equinox day in 24 solar terms, the official calendar, and later it was moved to August 15 in the summer calendar. According to China's calendar, August in the lunar calendar is in the middle of autumn, which is called Mid-Autumn Festival, and August 15th is in the middle of Mid-Autumn Festival, so it is called Mid-Autumn Festival. On the Mid-Autumn Festival, people get together to enjoy the moon, offer sacrifices and celebrate the harvest.
