Wong Tai Sin (Taoist figure)
Huang Chuping (about 328-about 386), later known as Wong Tai Sin, is one of the folk beliefs of the Han nationality. The famous Taoist immortal was born in Huanghuan Village, Lanxi, Jinhua, Zhejiang Province. It is said that he was born in Chi'an, Yiwu, Jinhua, Zhejiang Province. He was originally a local shepherd boy who herded sheep. He practiced Taoism and became an immortal in Jinhua Mountain. In the Song Dynasty, he was awarded the title of "the true person who cultivates quality and is pure and upright". In Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, it is widely spread in Southeast Asia. Today, there is Wong Tai Sin Ancestral Palace in Jinhua, Zhejiang, and Wong Tai Sin Temple in Guangzhou and Hong Kong. Hong Kong also has the Wong Tai Sin District established in his memory.
