What are the architectural features of the 17-hole bridge in the Summer Palace?
Seventeen-hole bridge is named after seventeen coupon holes under the bridge. A coupon hole in the middle is the highest and gradually narrows to both sides. From the east and west ends to the voucher hole in the middle, the bridge opening number is nine. The ancients thought that "nine" was the largest positive number, and the feudal emperor also called it "the Ninth Five-Year Plan". Therefore, the setting of the number of coupons and holes of the 17-hole bridge embodies this idea of the ancients. Like other stone bridges in the Summer Palace, this 17-hole bridge is decorated with beautifully carved white marble railings on both sides. Stone pillars are also decorated with stone lions. These lions come in many shapes and numbers. According to statistics, there are 544 lions, which is the most carved stone arch bridge among the existing garden stone bridges in China.
