Origin of the name Zhongshan
The name of Zhongshan has been changed frequently in history. It was first called Jinling Mountain. The Jinling City established here by the Chu State during the Warring States Period was named after this mountain. This is also the origin of Nanjing's ancient name "Jinling".
In the Qin and Han Dynasties, it was commonly known as Zhongshan. During the Eastern Wu Dynasty, because Sun Quan's grandfather was named Zhong, to avoid taboos, and this mountain was the place where Jiang Ziwen, the captain of Moxian County, died in the late Eastern Han Dynasty, it was renamed Jiangshan. In the early years of the Eastern Jin Dynasty, people often saw purple-gold clouds lingering on the top of the mountain, so they called it Zijin Mountain, or Jinshan.
Zhongshan stands on the banks of the Yangtze River with the power of a "dragon and pan", drinking clouds and swallowing mist. It has become lush and lush after thousands of years. It has hosted kings and heroes from several dynasties and is green with pines and cypresses. It integrates multiple cultures and several kinds of culture.
