Design concept

Initially, the Bank of China Tower was scheduled to be completed on August 8th, 1988, because the number "8" has auspicious meaning in China.

Its design is inspired by the rise of bamboo, which symbolizes strength, vitality, firmness and enterprising spirit, and also implies that China Bank (Hongkong) will continue to flourish in the future.

The granite exterior wall of the pedestal represents the Great Wall and China.

Its architectural feature is the combination of China's traditional architectural thought and modern advanced architectural technology. The building is composed of four crystal triangular columns with different heights, which are polygonal, like bright crystals, and show different colors under the sunlight.

Because of its unique design, it has become one of the most striking landmarks in Hong Kong, and many stamps and postcards issued in Hong Kong are often issued with the Bank of China Tower as one of the scenic spots. The Bank of China Tower is also one of the participating buildings in symphony of lights.

This three-dimensional geometric building composed of glass curtain wall and aluminum alloy stands tall in the middle of Hong Kong Island, overlooking Victoria Harbour.

Feng shui problem

On the other hand, the construction of the Bank of China Building has attracted a lot of controversy, because it is the only major building in Hong Kong that started without considering Mr. Feng Shui's opinion. As soon as the building was built, it triggered a Feng Shui war. At that time, Hong Kong said that the Bank of China Tower was shaped like a knife, and one of the "blades" pointed directly at the Government House (now the Government House). Therefore, the Governor's Office invited people to resolve it, and finally decided to plant willows in the right direction of China Bank Building to stop the murderous look. After the Bank of China Building was completed, the Wanguobaotong Bank Building built next to it was designed in the shape of a book, and its opening just corresponds to the sharp corner of the Bank of China Building, which is said to stop the murderous look. Another thing related to the geomantic omen of the Bank of China Building is the opposite HSBC Head Office Building, because it happens to be the "blade" of the Bank of China Building. Therefore, it is said that shortly after the completion of the Bank of China Building, the performance of HSBC was affected, so HSBC installed two fortress decorations facing the Bank of China Building on the roof to counter the murderous look of the Bank of China Building, and HSBC's performance improved again.
