The chicken has heatstroke. What should I do?

Etiological analysis of (1)

Chickens have no sweat glands, and their body temperature is mainly regulated by breathing with their mouths open, spreading their wings and dropping their wings to dissipate heat. In the hot and high temperature season, if the humidity is high, coupled with insufficient drinking water, poor ventilation in chicken houses, excessive feeding density, etc., this disease is prone to occur.

(2) Clinical symptoms

The sick chicken was depressed, its wings spread, its appetite decreased, it opened its mouth and gasped, it was short of breath, thirsty, dizzy, unable to stand, and finally collapsed and died. The dead cockscomb is purple, and some have blood in their mouths and protruding anus. Autopsy showed congestion in the heart, liver and lungs, and hemorrhage in the brain or cranial cavity.

(3) Prevention and control measures

① Adjust diet formula and strengthen feeding management. The feed intake of chickens decreased 15% ~ 30% at high temperature, and the feed absorption rate decreased, so the diet formula must be adjusted. In order to improve the protein level and calcium and phosphorus content of diet, the essential amino acids, especially sulfur-containing amino acids, should not be less than 0.58%. Because of the high temperature, chickens exhale a lot of carbon dioxide through breathing and cooling, which leads to the decrease of alkali reserve and blood pH value. Therefore, 0. 1% ~ 0.5% sodium bicarbonate should be added to the feed to maintain the concentration of carbon dioxide in the blood and the appropriate pH value. There is a lot of water in the feces in high temperature season, so the feces should be removed in time to ensure that the humidity in the house is not higher than 60%. The ground of the henhouse should be kept dry at ordinary times. The feeding time should be chosen in the morning and evening when the temperature is low, so as to avoid generating heat in the feeding process and increase the heat dissipation burden of chickens. Besides, we should provide enough drinking water. ② Reduce the temperature of henhouse. In hot summer, you can spray the roof of the henhouse with cold water. The specific method is to set a number of nozzles on the roof of the henhouse. When the temperature is high, turning on the sprinkler can reduce the temperature in the henhouse by about 3℃. Strengthening ventilation is also an effective measure for heatstroke prevention and cooling, because air flow can reduce the surface temperature of chicken. If possible, a water curtain can be set at the air inlet, which can significantly reduce the indoor temperature. ③ Do a good job in environmental greening. Planting lawns and low shrubs around the henhouse is beneficial to reduce the reflected heat of the environment to the henhouse, absorb the solar radiation energy, lower the environmental temperature and purify the air around the henhouse. But there should be no tall buildings near the henhouse, so as not to affect the natural ventilation of the henhouse.

Chickens with mild heatstroke should be taken out, placed in a cool and ventilated place, and provided with adequate drinking water and adjusted diet to make them return to normal. Those who can't recover should be eliminated.
