Introduction:
Lama Temple is a rare royal monastery of Gelug Sect of Tibetan Buddhism in Beijing. Historically, it was the residence of Yin Zhen (Yong Zhengdi), the fourth son of the Qing emperor, and the birthplace of Emperor Qianlong. Later, it was changed to Huangjiao Temple, where incense was flourishing. There are many precious ancient buildings and cultural relics in the temple, which are worth visiting.
As a temple, the Lama Temple is a combination of Han Buddhism and Tibetan Buddhism. When you visit the Lama Temple, you can see Maitreya in the Heavenly King Hall and the gilded bronze statue of Zong Kaba, a master of Tibetan Buddhism, in the Falun Hall. In addition, the arrangement of the four heavenly kings in the Temple of the King and the "III Buddha" in the main hall of the Lama Temple is also different from that in the Han temples.
The Lama Temple also contains treasures donated by the Tibetan local government to the royal family and temples in the Qing Dynasty (some of the collections can be seen in the Panchen Building and Jietai Building). There are many Buddha statues, Thangka and a large number of precious cultural relics in the main hall of the temple. Among them, the 500 Luohan Mountain carved with rosewood, the Jin Sinan Dragon Carving Shrine and the 18-meter-high Dalbergia Buddha are the three wonders of the Lama Temple wood carving technology. The three wonders are famous for Maitreya Buddha in Wanfuge, which is 8 meters above the ground/kloc-0 and 8 meters underground. It is carved from a complete piece of white sandalwood. This tree originated in Nepal and was later dedicated to Emperor Qianlong.
The main building complex of Yonghe Palace consists of two cultural relics exhibition halls: Pailou, Zhaotaimen (Mountain Gate), Tianwang Hall, Yonghe Palace Hall, Youyong Hall, Falun Hall, Wanfuge, Panchen Building and Jietai Building, as well as the East-West Annex Hall and the "Four Schools". Visit the Lama Temple and walk along the central axis. The scenic roads are not complicated, so it is easy to find temples.
The Lama Temple holds regular sacrificial ceremonies on the mornings of the first, tenth, fifteenth and thirtieth days of the lunar calendar every year, and there are also major sacrificial activities. During the ceremony, the number of tourists and believers will increase a lot. Please see official website for detailed Buddhist activities:
