The geographical environment of the Huangdi Mausoleum

Qiaoshan, where the Huangdi Mausoleum is located, is located one kilometer north of Huangling County, Shaanxi Province, and is the eastward extension of Ziwu Ridge. Ziwu Ridge runs from north to south, with "Zi" in the north and "Wu" in the south, so it is called "Ziwu Ridge". The total area of Qiaoshan is 566.7 hectares. The mountain is thick and majestic, and Jushui flows around it on three sides. The mountains are densely forested, with ancient cypress trees covering an area of 89.1 hectares. There are more than 81,600 ancient cypress trees, including more than 30,000 ancient cypress trees that are more than a thousand years old. It is the oldest, largest covering area and best preserved ancient cypress group in China.

"Taiping Huanyu Ji" written by Yue Shi of the Song Dynasty records: "Qiaoshan, the "Book of Mountains and Seas" says: 'The water source of Pugu is at the foot of the mountain, and the water flows, so it is called Qiaoshan'." "Qiaoshan" written by Gu Zuyu of the Qing Dynasty It is recorded in the "Minutes of Fangyu Reading History": "The Ju River reaches the north of the county and passes through the mountains, so it is named after the bridge."

The Ju River passes in a U-shape from west to east around the Bridge Mountain. Standing on the mountain and looking towards the Looking down, there is a river to the east and a river to the west, just like water passing through the bottom of the mountain, so the mountain is named Qiaoshan, and the Yellow Emperor's Mausoleum is named Qiaoling because of the mountain.

On July 11, 1992, "People's Daily" published an article titled "The Feng Shui Axis of the Yellow Emperor's Mausoleum". The article said: "The Feng Shui axis of the Yellow Emperor's Mausoleum is from the main ridge of Qiaoshan to the Yellow Emperor's tomb, and It forms a line with the peak of Yintai Mountain, and various buildings in the Huangdi Mausoleum area are built on this axis, and the direction of the tomb is exactly on this line." This connection runs from northwest to southeast. In other words, the orientation of the Yellow Emperor’s mausoleum is different from that of due north and south (sitting north and facing south) or due west and east (sitting west and facing east) of later emperors, but is based on The geography, with its back to the northwest and its face to the southeast, is completely consistent with the direction of Qiaoshan, Ziwuling and Kunlun Mountains, known as the Dragon Vein, which is the basic shape of Chinese geography - "The sky tilts to the northwest, and the earth does not satisfy the southeast."
