Where is Shaoyang North Tower?
The north bank of Zishui, built in the first year of Wanli in Ming Dynasty (AD 1573), is 26 meters high, with seven octagons, masonry structure and iron roof. The tower is spacious and has a brick spiral staircase that can climb to the top. The North Tower is far away from the East Tower, facing the pavilion outside Zhuyan across the river. Bishui Ancient Pagoda has a special taste.
Shaoyang North Tower is located in Beita Village, Jiangbei Township, Beita District, Shaoyang City, Hunan Province. It was built in the first year of Wanli in Ming Dynasty (1573) and completed in the tenth year of Wanli (1582).
During the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty, it was recorded in the "North Tower" written by Shaoyang Renche, a minister of Nanjing Ritual Department, that the reason for building the North Tower was that "Baoqing Fucheng is located in the northeast of Erli, where the Zijiang and Shaoshui rivers meet, and the terrain is low. Metaphysically, it is advisable to build a tower town to cultivate feng shui and shake the humanities. " After the completion of the North Tower, the North Tower Temple and the Five-year Pavilion were built next to it. According to legend, Qian Bangmao, a monk in Zhenjiang in the Ming Dynasty, once rested here. Therefore, it was once a place for Buddhist activities in the Ming and Qing Dynasties.
The tower is a pavilion-style brick tower. The plane of bluestone tower foundation is square, each side is 6.25m long and the height is1.92m.. The tower is octagonal with seven floors and a height of 37 meters. On the south side of the first floor at the bottom of the tower, a semicircular ticket top door is opened, and each floor has a tower eaves. The eaves of the first to third floors are decorated with brick carvings and wishful arches. The eaves and roofs of the tower are decorated with lions, elephants and wild animals. The ventricle of the tower has four layers, and the height difference between the bottom layer and the outside of the tower is 2.6 meters. The tower is spacious and has a brick spiral staircase that can climb to the top. The top of the tower consists of three stacked iron vases. Between the second wall, a stone tablet wedged with iron is engraved with the name of the craftsman. The tower is empty, and there is a brick spiral staircase to reach the top.
1944, an iron vase was knocked down by the Japanese air raid, weighing 500 kilograms, and one corner of the tower was damaged by the vase. Every corner of the floor was originally equipped with bronze bells, which made a pleasant sound when the wind blew.
In June, 20001year, Shaoyang North Tower was announced by the State Council as the fifth batch of national key cultural relics protection units.
