What are the legends about the origin of Hengshan Mountain in Nanyue and what are the folklore of Hengshan Mountain and Zhurongfeng?
There are many legends about the origin of Mount Hengshan in Nanyue. It is said that Pangu created the world, and after his death, it turned into mountains and rivers, with Mount Tai in Dongyue as the head, Huashan in Xiyue as the foot, Songshan in Zhongyue as the abdomen, Hengshan in Beiyue as the right arm and Hengshan in Nanyue as the left arm.
It is said that Shennong, one of the ancestors of China, chased Zhuniao and knocked it down with a magic whip to become Nanyue. Therefore, the archway you saw at the entrance of Nanyue Ancient Town was painted with Zhuniao, and the emblem of Nanyue Mountain "Zhuniao" came from this.
It is said that Di Ku appointed Zhu Rong as the official of Huozheng. Zhu Rong was one of the san huang among the "Three Emperors and Five Emperors" in ancient times. When he was in charge of fire, he used fire to transform and benefit the people. He could show the light of heaven and earth, give birth to soft grains and trees, and later generations respected him as Vulcan.
Later, Zhu Rong ascended to heaven and became an immortal. He buried the fire in the mountains of Hengshan Mountain. Unexpectedly, the fire slowly ignited, and Nanyue became a sea of fire for a while.
The mountain god of Hengshan Mountain was in a hurry. He asked the Dragon King of the East China Sea to put out the fire. The old dragon king sent down rain, but the fire didn't go out, but it got worse. The old dragon king asked Guanyin for help. Guanyin said, "Only by opening the passage from Hengshan Mountain to Bohai Sea can the fire be put out."
The Dragon King called his 8 dragons, working day and night, and got through the passage. The fire went out, but the dragon king was afraid that it would ignite again, so he told the dragons to wait there day and night. In winter, when the weather is cold, make the fire bigger, melt the snow water on the mountain, and make Hengshan moist and warm. In summer, instill with spring water to make the fire smaller and make the weather cool. It is precisely because of this that Hengshan will have such a comfortable environment. In nanyue temple, there are 8 dragons guarding the mountains and rivers.
Zhu Rongfeng was named after the fire god Zhu Rongshi. According to legend, Zhu Rong's family was the minister of the Yellow Emperor in Xuanyuan in ancient times. After human beings invented drilling wood to make fire, they could not save the fire and could not use it. Because of their close relationship with fire, Zhu Rong's family became an expert in managing fire, and the Yellow Emperor appointed him as the fire official in charge of fire.
Because Zhu Rong was familiar with the situation in the south, the Yellow Emperor named him Stuart, who was in charge of southern affairs. He lived in Hengshan Mountain and was buried in Hengshan Mountain after his death. In order to commemorate his great contribution to people, the Yun peak of Hengshan Mountain was named Zhurongfeng. In the old saying, "wish" is lasting, and "harmony" is bright, that is, let him be bright forever.
Zhurongfeng stands tall and straight, higher than the peaks of Hibiscus, Purple Gai, Tianzhu, Xiangguang, Yanxia and Hibiscus. On the west side of Zhu Rong Temple, there is a moon platform. On a moonlit night, the moon is shining in the sky, and the scenery is particularly bright. Visitors standing on the stage, enjoying the moonlight, have a different scene than on the flat ground. Even if the moon sets in the west, there is still its afterglow here. As described in Sun Ying 'ao's poems in the Ming Dynasty, the world has lost its charm, and the light here is not low.
There are many temples near Zhurongfeng, and there is Shangfeng Temple in the south, which was called Guangtianguan before the Sui Dynasty, and it is a place for Taoist activities. During the great cause of Emperor Yangdi, it was ordered to change to Shangfeng Temple.
Directly in front of Shangfeng Temple is the Nantianmen. There is a sun-watching platform on the mountain behind Shangfeng Temple, and now there is a meteorological station. Next to the Japanese Observatory, there is a stone tablet engraved with four Chinese characters: "The source of Japanese observation". In the crisp autumn, especially in Chu Qing after the rain, visitors can see the wonder of "a red sun rolling golden balls".
