Nothing ventured, nothing gained
Ban Chao, a famous Eastern Han Dynasty soldier, led his troops to attack the northern Xiongnu nobles in his early years, and was sent to the western regions with Guo Xun. When I first arrived in Shanshan country (originally Loulan country, it was changed to Shanshan when Emperor Zhao of Han Dynasty), King Shanshan was still very considerate, but then he suddenly changed his attitude. Ban Chao was surprised, guessing that it must be because the northern Xiongnu sent envoys to get in the way, and King Shanshan didn't know what to do. So Ban Chao called the other courtiers and lied to him: "I heard that the envoys of the northern Xiongnu have been here for several days. Where are they now?" Hearing this, the courtiers were terrified and confessed everything. When Ban Chao heard this, as he expected, he privately called all the 36 officers and men who followed him to have a drink. While everyone was strong, he inspired, "Now everyone and I are in a foreign country, and we want to make great achievements and develop. But a few days after the Xiongnu envoy came here, King Shanshan didn't take us seriously. Maybe one day he will send us to Xiongnu, and our flesh and blood will be devoured by wolves. What do you say? " The subordinates all said, "In this dangerous place, life and death are at your disposal!" Therefore, Ban Chao suggested: "If you don't go into the tiger hole, you won't get the tiger cub ("If you don't go into the tiger hole, you won't get the tiger cub "). At present, we can only attack the Xiongnu envoy's camp at night, so that they don't know how many men and horses we have, and then we destroy them in the chaos. This time, King Shanshan will be terrified and our business will succeed. " Everyone suggested that we should discuss this matter with Guo Yao. Ban Chao was afraid that Guo Yao would be timid and bad, but he denied it. In this way, Ban Chao alone led 36 people to win the Xiongnu barracks, which shocked the whole country. So Ban Chao and his men successfully completed the mission together, and made an alliance with King Shanshan.
