Is the weather in the north suitable for growing potatoes?
Potatoes in the north are sown in spring and harvested in autumn. Generally, the south can be sown multiple times, but the north can only be sown once, mainly because of the cold weather in the north.
When potato tubers are used for vegetative propagation, seed potatoes can germinate and grow at a soil temperature of 5 to 8 degrees Celsius, and the optimal temperature is 15 to 20 degrees Celsius. The suitable temperature for plant stems and leaves to grow and bloom is 16 to 22 degrees Celsius. The most suitable temperature for tuber formation at night is 10 to 13 degrees Celsius (soil temperature is 16 to 18 degrees Celsius). When it is higher than 20 degrees Celsius, tuber formation will be slow. When the temperature drops to -2 during the emergence and seedling stages, they will be damaged by freezing.
