Historical evolution of Fengshan City
Fengshan was named Pitou in ancient times. Fengshan was originally the name of the county. In the early Qing Dynasty, Wannian Prefecture was divided into two counties: Taiwan and Fengshan. Fengshan is the old name of this county. It was established in Xinglongzhuang Pizitou (now Zuoying). The city was called Pitou at that time, and its administrative area fell under the jurisdiction of Dazhuli, Fengshan County. In the 51st year of Qianlong's reign, the Lin Shuangwen incident occurred. In response, brothers Zhuang and Datian of the county raised troops and captured Pizitou County. When the situation was peaceful, in the 53rd year of Qianlong's reign, the seat of Fengshan County was moved to Pitou, and the original name of this city was Pitou. The head was gradually replaced by Fengshan. There is a legend in ancient times that a stone in Fengshan suddenly opened up in the past, and there was a prophecy in it: "A piece of stone in Fengshan can accommodate a million people. Five hundred years later, Fujian people will live in it." The incident is recorded in Fengshan County Chronicle. As for the general annals of Fujian, there is a similar record about Fengshan: "The tenants cultivated the fields and obtained stone slabs, which are called "the mountains are bright and the water is beautiful, and the Fujian people live there."
The name of Fengshan , because there is a mountain near Fengbitou in Xiaogang, called Fengshan. The mountain looks like a phoenix spreading its wings, so the name of the county is derived from this, and it is also named after the place. Therefore, the old name of the county is adopted. There is no such mountain in Fengshan District. After the war, it was changed to Fengshan Town, Kaohsiung County. On July 1, 1972, it was changed to Fengshan City. On December 25, 2010, it was changed to Fengshan District, Kaohsiung City.
