What is Amitabha in Nanwu?
Amitabha is the name of an enlightened person with boundless merits. Amitabha Buddha, referred to as Amitabha Buddha or Amitabha Buddha for short, refers to the enlightened person with boundless merits-Tathagata, namely Sakyamuni. So amitabha is also called Buddha Buddha. Amitabha is translated into Chinese, A is translated into nothing, Amitabha is translated into quantity, and Buddha is translated into sensation, which means infinite sensation. Infinite awareness means knowing everything and being aware of everything.
To sum up, the meaning of Amitabha is the forty-eight wishes mentioned in the Infinite Life Sutra, which is the concentration of infinite feeling; If it is unfolded, it is all the infinite life classics. Therefore, we can say that the forty-eight wishes are the annotations of Amitabha's name, and the Infinite Life Sutra is the annotations of the forty-eight wishes. However, the Infinite Life Sutra is only a brief description, and then the Dafang Guangfo Huayan Sutra, so the Dafang Guangfo Huayan Sutra is really a detailed explanation of the Infinite Life Sutra. Do you have any more details? Yes, the teachings of Sakyamuni Buddha in 49 years are recorded in detail in the Huayan Sutra of Dafang Guangfo Buddha. If you can understand it in this sense, you will know that Amitabha is the general program and principle of the whole Buddhism.
So when we read the name of the Buddha, we read all the Buddhism that the Buddha said in 49 years. In Buddhism, it can be said that great masters enforce the law. Complete adherence is the general program and principle now, and "there is no Amitabha in the south" is the general program and principle of the whole Buddhism. We accept this general program and principle, and make a vow to live in Elysium, get close to Amitabha, and decide our achievements and our lives.
Just like people have other names, Amitabha has thirteen titles, twelve of which are related to "light" and one to life. The former is called "Infinite Light Buddha" and the latter is called "Infinite Life Buddha".
"There is no Amitabha in the south" can be simply interpreted as: Pay tribute to Amitabha! In addition to this narrow interpretation, the broad sense of "Amitabha in the south" is a tribute to all people who are conscious.
What is an enlightened person? This can be divided into two levels:
One is a low-standard conscious person-"self-control", that is, starting from oneself, breaking evil and cultivating good, obeying the law, indifferent to fame and fortune, accumulating merits and virtues, being clean and letting go, following fate (origin, gathering, dispersing and extinction, "all laws are born by fate, but also die by karma") without climbing.
