Huangpi

In the Tang and Song Dynasties, it was called Guilong Cave, and it was renamed Pentagonal Cave at the end of Yuan Dynasty. In the first year of Taichang in Ming Dynasty, it was originally named Middle East Wei, and it was called "Huangpi Wei Fort" during Yongzheng period in Qing Dynasty. Because there is a vicious head on the river, sulfur ore is mined in the upper reaches of the river, and the vicious head turns yellow because of river water pollution, so it is called Huangpi.

In the Ming Dynasty, there was a Wei in Shanglanpai, which was named Wen Wei because of the residents' Wen and He surnames. The two surnames often argued over the name of the market, and later the market was moved to this address and renamed Yonghe, meaning that the two surnames were "forever harmonious".

Diaofang

600 years ago, there were shops and dyehouses run by residents surnamed Diao and Gao, hence the name "Diao Gaopu" and later "Diao Gangpu". After Gao moved out, people called the dyehouse "Diaofang", which is still in use today.

Xinbei

Tang Ye

The mountain here looks like a floating reed, so it is called "floating" and pronounced "floating". Huanghuai

Huangpi separated 1978. There is a big pagoda tree planted on Huangniping, which belongs to the jurisdiction of Huangpi, hence the name "Huang Huai".

Gangbei

1962 separated from Huangpi and merged into Huangpi in 2004 12. Huangpi is divided into two sections for Jiulonggang (now Lingzhigang). Because it is located in the south of Jiulonggang, it is called "Gangbei".

Appendix 1: Sources of Some Place Names in Huanghuai

It is said that there are several small shops on the west side of Huanghuai, selling as many goods as possible. The villagers call this place "Xipu" or "Xibu".

Hecun Hecun, alias "Sanxi", is named after the confluence of Baolong, Huanghuai and Shuangxia Rivers. Because Sanxi is surrounded by vast paddy fields and fertile soil, it is a high-yield rice producing area in Huanghuai, so it is named Hecun.

Huangxi, also known as Huangshaxi, is named because there are many yellow sands in the small river in the village.

Baolong is called "Baolong" because of its special basin shape, like a "dragon", and is rich in coal, iron, tungsten, copper and other minerals. Today it is divided into three villages: Baofeng, Shangbaolong (Lian Xin) and Xiabaolong (Hong Guang).

This new village belongs to the deep mountain area. The top of Zhangding Mountain (mountain name, actually 799 meters above sea level) stands at the northeast end, with a slightly lower narrow basin in the middle. People used to think it was a barren land, so they named it "decadence". Later, it developed and prospered initially, and it was renamed "New Village".

Shuangxia, formerly known as "Shuangxi", was taken from 1 village at the intersection of Furnace Diameter and Shuangtouxi. Because it is located under Shuangtou Village, it was renamed "Shuangxia".
