In 2000, the project team headed by Dr. Bao Yuhai completed the remote sensing survey of land resources, desertification, natural disasters, ecological environment, soil erosion, geology, mineral resources, tourism resources and water resources in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region by using LANDSATTM satellite image data, established the spatial databases and attribute databases at all levels mentioned above, and initially established the land and resources information system of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. From the end of 1980s to 2000 to 2005, three stages of land use remote sensing interpretation and dynamic database establishment in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region were completed, and advanced technical routes and methods for remote sensing investigation, dynamic monitoring of resources and environment and establishment of resources and environment information system were formed. The dynamic database of land environment and the background database of ecological environment, which mainly focus on land use and ecological environment in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, not only become an important data source of resources and environment in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, but also become an important part of resources and environment database of China Academy of Sciences.

Bao Yuhai's Key Laboratory of Remote Sensing and Geographic Information System in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region and the Key Laboratory of Resources and Environmental Information System in Inner Mongolia University have become the first-class laboratories in the autonomous region and members of the working group of —CNCIGBPRS/DIS (Remote Sensing/Data Information System of China National Committee of International Geosphere-Biosphere Research Program).

In June 2003, EOS/MODIS satellite receiving station was built in key laboratory. The establishment of MODIS satellite receiving system makes this laboratory an important base for monitoring and studying major natural disasters such as desertification, sandstorm, grassland locust plague, forest fire, grassland fire, snowstorm and drought in our region and even the whole Mongolian plateau.

He has made outstanding contributions to discipline construction and personnel training. The undergraduate major of geographic information system (2002), the master major of map and geographic information system (2003) and the undergraduate major of surveying and mapping engineering (2006) which he took the lead in applying for were all approved. There are more than 40 graduates and graduate students (25 of them have graduated) in four majors: human geography, physical geography, land resource management, map and geographic information system. Is training doctoral students jointly with Northeast Normal University. He has taught many courses in remote sensing and GIS to undergraduates and postgraduates. He was rated as an excellent instructor of graduation thesis for undergraduates in Inner Mongolia Normal University for many times, and as an excellent instructor of master thesis for four times (three different disciplines of geography: human geography, physical geography, map and geographic information system).

Dr. Bao Yuhai became the young scholar who undertook the most scientific research projects in Inner Mongolia Normal University. In recent years, his projects such as "Remote Sensing Comprehensive Survey of Land and Resources in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region", "Chifeng Digital Forestry Project" and "Planning of Main Functional Areas in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region" have become the projects with the largest scientific research funds in Inner Mongolia Normal University. He presided over more than 30 horizontal and vertical scientific research projects and participated in nearly 30 scientific research projects. Since 1999, it has undertaken nearly 13 scientific research projects at or above the provincial level. Among them, there are 2 national natural science foundations, international cooperation project of Ministry of Science and Technology 1, major project of Inner Mongolia Natural Science Foundation 1, general project 1, key science and technology project of Inner Mongolia 1, talent fund project of Inner Mongolia 1, and key scientific and technological projects of Ministry of Education 1.
