Why cold air can't cross Qiongzhou Strait
2. The path and intensity of cold air southward: cold air flows from high latitude to low latitude. When cold air moves from north to south in winter, due to the influence of the topography on both sides of Qiongzhou Strait, some cold air will choose to bypass the strait on the east side of Hainan Island instead of crossing the strait directly. At the same time, the cold air will gradually weaken in the process of going south, especially when the cold air passes through a long distance and ocean waters, its intensity and influence range will be further reduced.
3. Marine environment of the Strait: Qiongzhou Strait is a relatively shallow water area with an average water depth of about 60 meters. This shallow water environment will have a certain impact on the direction and speed of water flow. In addition, complex ocean phenomena such as countercurrent or vortex in the strait also hinder the passage of cold air to some extent.
