When is the rainy season in Nanjing this year?
The normal years of rainy season in Nanjing are generally from mid-June to early July, about 20 days, but there are many years with short rainy season in recent years. Nanjing has a subtropical humid climate, with an annual average temperature of 15.3℃ and annual precipitation of1106.5 mm. The rainy season is from mid-June to early July. Nanjing is known as the "stove". The extreme maximum temperature in July and August is sometimes as high as 40℃, usually around 35℃.
Meiyu amount: As of July 20 10, the accumulated Meiyu amount in Jiangning 134.2 mm, which is about 50% less than the annual Meiyu amount (266.8 mm); There are few regional rainstorm processes, and there are many local short-term heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and strong winds.
The reason of rainy season is that from late May to early June every year, cold air from the north and warm air from south to north meet in South China, forming a quasi-static front in South China. Around the end of June, the warm air force strengthened, and the quasi-static front moved northward to the Jianghuai area, becoming the quasi-static front of the Jianghuai area (also known as Meiyu front). Because the warm air from the south carries a lot of water vapor, it will produce a lot of convection when it meets the cold air mass. During this period, the influence of cold and warm air is similar, so the front stays in Jianghuai area. Simply put, it is related to the western Pacific subtropical high: in rainy season, the cold air in the north often goes south, and the warm and humid air in the southwest goes deep into the north. When cold air meets warm air, rain bands generally form. Under normal circumstances, it will rain, but it happens that the western Pacific subtropical high system moves northward, pushing this rain belt to the above areas.
