The river that originated in Guangtou Mountain is called Laoha River, which is the upstream source of Xiliao River. "Laoha" is a Khitan language, which means "iron". The Laoha River Basin has a long history of human civilization, and the ancestors who created the "Hongshan Culture" in the Neolithic Age once lived on the Laoha River.

Guangtoushan 100 km is the site of Zhongjing (Daming Town, Ningcheng County, Inner Mongolia), the capital of Liao State. Zhongjing is also a big post station opened by Liao country from Mongolian grassland, crossing Yanshan Mountains and leading to North China Plain and Central Plains.
