What does watershed mean?

A watershed refers to a mountain ridge or highland that separates two adjacent river basins, from which river water flows in two opposite directions. A watershed is the boundary between adjacent watersheds, usually the line connecting the highest points of the watershed.

Where watersheds are formed: In nature, watersheds are mostly mountains and plateaus, but they can also be gently undulating plains or lakes. Some rivers even become the watershed between two basins, dividing water. The line is the ridge of the watershed.
