What kind of response did the woman who came out of the endless spring hole get?

In ancient China, there were not many ways for literati to amuse themselves. Among these few pastimes, couplets are one of the more popular pastimes. Because of this, there are so many anecdotes related to couplets in ancient times. What I want to introduce to you next is related to an old story about couplets.

It is said that a female apprentice gave an online link to "Endless Springs in the Cave" and wanted to test others present. The others present were also amused by the first couplet given by the female apprentice, and soon came up with the second couplet. So, do you know what kind of downline they have given?

First, when the master and the apprentice visited the temple together and drank water from a cave, they became interested in couplets.

It is said that in the Song Dynasty, there were four outstanding disciples, one woman and three men, under the master teacher Wu Fuzi of Jiangdong Academy in Guangxi. Not only do they often learn knowledge from Master Wu, but occasionally they will follow Master Wu to a nearby mountain temple when the weather is fine. The couplet I told you before happened when they went to a nearby mountain temple together again.

It is early spring, and many plants are green. Seeing the fine weather, Master Wu invited four outstanding disciples to visit a nearby mountain temple with him. Only this time when they arrived at the mountain temple, they found no one in the temple. The monks who used to be seen have disappeared without a trace.

Because the monk is not in the temple, Master Wu, who always pays attention to etiquette, finds it inconvenient for the group to stay in the temple for a long time. So before long, he took four disciples to the temple and wandered around. As a result, several people actually found a cave behind the temple, where there was a clear spring flowing out.

Just then, a few people in the group felt thirsty, so under the guidance of Master Wu, they went into the cave to get the spring water and drank it. After drinking enough water, the only female apprentice among Wu Fuzi's four apprentices suddenly became interested in couplets. So after observing the present environment, she blurted out that "the spring water in the cave is inexhaustible."

Second, the bottom line given by Master Wu and his three male apprentices.

After Wu Fuzi's female apprentice said the first couplet, it immediately aroused the interest of others present in the second couplet. One of the disciples, surnamed Wang, spoke first and made a couplet with a winding path in the forest. Because he felt that it was because of the forest path that led them to come that they could see the cave behind the temple and drink the sweet spring water in the cave.

After the disciples expressed their views, a disciple surnamed Li also gave the bottom line of "the mountain wind is coming". Because when he was standing at the mouth of the cave and trying to get away, he suddenly felt a cool mountain breeze blowing across his face. He thought this kind of situation could be used as the material of the bottom line, so he came up with such a bottom line.

Later, there was an apprentice named Zhao. When he saw that all his classmates had successfully made the bottom line, he also told him a bottom line that he thought was very good-"Peach blossoms are blooming on the mountain again". He gave such a bottom line because he noticed the peach blossoms in the mountains. He thinks that peach blossom and spring water are beautiful things, so he takes peach blossom as the material of couplets now.

In this way, all the four disciples of Master Wu Can can be said to "show off" their literary talents. In this case, as their master, master Wu will naturally have a showdown. So, he listened to disciple Gao's words and gave the bottom line of "clouds and rain falling on the top of the mountain".

Third, the sudden appearance of eminent monks also gave a bottom line.

After master Wu made the second couplet, the five of them just decided to go back to the academy, when suddenly there was a rich voice behind them. They looked back and found that the other party was actually a Taoist in the temple. The monk took the initiative to salute several people and gave the next pair of couplets "Monks in the temple wash their backs". Master Wu and others tasted the couplets sent by monks while returning gifts, and suddenly felt that they contained a lot of information.

It turns out that the bottom couplet given by the monk is not only in tune with the top couplet given by the female apprentice. He also clearly told Master Wu and others that they saw the temple when they came, and there was no strange sight of monks, because all the monks went to wash their hair outside the temple.

Until this time, Master Wu and others knew that the cave behind the temple was actually the property of the temple. In this way, they went into the cave to drink spring water without others' consent, which became a bit impolite. Fortunately, the monk not only ignored them so much, but also enthusiastically sent them to the foot of the mountain.

In fact, apart from this short story, there are many short stories related to couplets in ancient China. It's just that if you don't collect relevant information, it's hard to know the existence and specific content of these short stories. China has a long history of culture, and some couplets contain different philosophies. Experience with your heart, and you can use it for yourself!
