Today in history: July 16th.
John John, a lovely little boy, saluted his dead father's coffin and grew up to be the sexiest man. He and his two passengers took off from Essex Airport in his Piper Saratoga single-engine plane, New Jersey. Kennedy usually doesn't take risks like many of his cousins. Although experienced pilots wouldn't let him do so, he made up his mind to take part in the flight. As there are no landmarks or coastal lights, pilots will have to rely on their instruments. John F. Kennedy has only accumulated 3 hours in the air, and he is not qualified to operate the plane only through instruments. One of his flight instructors was very worried that he offered to travel with them, but Kennedy turned him down, saying that he "wanted to do it alone."
at about 9: 3pm on July 16th, 1999, John F. Kennedy's bagpiper Saratoga began to descend 3 miles west of Martha's Vineyard. The Kennedy is seven miles from land, so it may lose its way, turn right and leave the coast, and climb hundreds of feet. According to the information released by the national transportation safety board, Kennedy's plane flew from 2,2 feet to 1,1 feet in 14 seconds, and then disappeared from the radar screen.
Intensive rescue operations were carried out for three people, but with the passage of time, the purpose of this mission changed from rescue to recovery. On July 21st, the bodies of three victims were found at sea 8 miles from Martha's Vineyard. On July 22nd, the USS Brisco held a memorial service for John F. Kennedy, Caroline Baissette Kennedy and Lauren Baissette, and their ashes were scattered at sea.
When national transportation safety board released the investigation report, it concluded that the most likely cause of this tragedy was "the failure to control the plane when it landed on the water at night, because of spatial disorientation. The cause of the accident was smog and night.
