Notes on the Classical Chinese Texts of Entering the Book of Shu

1. Translation of the ancient text "The Record of Entering Shu"

The original translation of "The Record of Entering Shu" was on the 14th (July), evening and sunny.

Open the south window to view the mountains and rivers. There are many fish in the stream, and when the water breaks, they jump out, and the slanting sun reflects them, like silver knives.

Those who fish for fishing are very hopeful, so the price is very low, and the children will be satisfied all their lives. The natives said that the water in this stream is fertile and suitable for fish.

When you drink it, the water tastes sweet and fruity. Do you believe that it is because you are fat that you have more fish? In the southeast of the stream, there are several peaks like black daisies, covering the green mountains. Translation (July) 14th, evening, sunny.

Open the south-facing window in the cabin and watch the scenery of the river and mountains. There are many fish in the Gushu River. From time to time they break out of the water and jump out. The setting sun reflects on the water like a silver knife.

People fishing with poles and nets are everywhere. Because of this, the price of fish is very low, and the children and servants have enough to eat every day. Local people said that the water in this stream is very fertile and suitable for the growth of fish.

When I sang about the stream, I felt that the water tasted really sweet. Is it really because of the fertilizer? Many peaks in the southeast part of the stream look like they have been dyed with blue-black paint. They turn out to be green mountains. Original text (August) 14th, dawn and rain.

After crossing a small rocky mountain, half of it is cut straight from the top, which is very similar to the Shushan Mountain on the bank of the Yuyao River. Throwing it into the river, I met a wooden raft, which was more than ten feet wide and fifty feet long.

Translation: On the 14th (August), (the ship departed from Fuchi and headed west) it rained at dawn. Passing by a small rocky mountain, (this mountain) is as straight as if half of the top of the mountain were cut off with a knife. It is very similar to Shushan Mountain by the Yuyao River.

While sailing on the river, I encountered a wooden raft, which was more than ten feet wide and fifty feet long. According to the original text, there were thirty or forty households, with wives, chickens, dogs, mortars, and pots and pans. In the middle, there were streets passing between each other, and there were also shrines, which had never been seen before.

The boatman said that this is only for the small ones, and the big ones can spread soil on the raft to make a vegetable garden or a wine shop. They can no longer fit in, but they can only travel on the river. That day, we were pulling the boat against the wind, and we only traveled fifteen or six miles from Pingdan to Rinan.

It is parked in Liuguanji, next to the border of Qizhou. The children landed on the shore and returned to the cloud: "After reaching the path, behind the mountain, there is a vague Pi Lake with rich lotus roots.

There are many trees and flowers along the lake, and in the setting sun, there are several reed fan huts. It is quiet and quiet. There is a big pear. I want to buy it, but I can't get it. I suspected that there were tigers and wolves, so I didn't dare to go there."

Liu Guanji reported that Zhaolie of the Yun Dynasty entered Wuchang and set up a boat here. In the evening, watch giant turtles floating and sinking in the water.

There are thirty or forty households in the translation, with wives, children, chickens, dogs, and mortars and mills for pounding rice. There are passages to and from each other in the middle, as well as a shrine, which I have never seen before.

The boatman said that this is still a small one. The big one can spread soil on the bamboo raft to make a vegetable field or open a hotel. But it is so big that it can no longer be driven into the small water bay. Just marching on the river. There was a headwind that day, so the tracker pulled the boat hard and only traveled fifteen or six miles from dawn to sunset.

The ship anchored in Liuguanji, which was the ancient border of Qizhou. The nephew and others went ashore and came back and said: "I found a small road (from the small road) to the back of the mountain. There is a small lake with a large area. There are many lotus seeds and water chestnuts. There are many wood flowers along the lake. Several families are standing in the sunset, with reeds. The fences and huts seem to be an elegant place, and it is so quiet that there is no sound of people.

There are big pears. I want to buy them, but there are brisk boats in the lake to pick them. "Lingjiao asked them but no one agreed.

I wanted to see what was going on, but I happened to see a tool for catching wild animals on the roadside. I suspected that there were tigers and wolves, so I didn't dare to go any further." Liu Guanfan, it is said that Liu Bei, Emperor Zhaolie of the Shu Han Dynasty, went to the Kingdom of Wu and once boarded a boat and landed here.

At night, I saw big turtles floating in the water. Original text (August) 21st.

Passing between two willows, looking back at the river, the distant mountains are repeatedly beautiful. Since Lihuang, even if the road is intersected, it is still far away, the terrain is getting higher and higher, and there are many kinds of bean sprouts, millet and buckwheat.

In the evening, there are Yangluo, the embankment is high and the willows are high, and there are many residents. The fish are as cheap as dirt, and a hundred dollars can feed twenty mouths; and they are all giant fish, so if you want to find small fish to feed the cat, you can't get them.

Translation: On the 21st of August (the ship departed from Qiji Port in the upper reaches of Huangzhou), it passed the double willow folder and looked back at the river. There were many mountains in the distance, deep and beautiful. After leaving Huangzhou, even though we were traveling between two willows, it was still vast and vast, and the terrain gradually became higher. Most of them planted beans, millet, buckwheat and other food crops.

In the evening, we anchored in Yangluosu. The embankment here is wide, the willow trees are dense, and there are many residents. Fish are as cheap as soil, and one hundred copper coins (for fish) can feed twenty people; they are all big fish, so if you want to find some small fish to feed cats, you can't find them.

Original text On the 9th (September), early in the morning, I visited the Queen Earth Temple. The houses beside the road are all thatched with more than a foot of thick thatch, and are neat and tidy.

Hang the sail and throw it across the river for thirty miles, stopping at Taziji, a mountain beside the river. Since leaving Ezhou, I have just seen the mountains.

Buy sheep and buy wine. The village was built with nine steps, so a sheep was slaughtered, and the boats were bought, and it was all finished in a short while.

I asked for chrysanthemums at a house on the river, and I got several branches. They were fragrant and lovely, and I became drunk with them. It rained at night and was extremely cold, so the quilts began to be covered.

Translation: On the morning of the 9th (September) (the boat sailed to Shishou County in Jingzhou), we went to the temple to worship the Earth God. The thatch covering the roofs of the private houses on the roadside is more than a foot thick, and they are so neat that there is not a stray weed.

He set up his sails and sailed for thirty miles in the river. He anchored at Tazifan, a large mountain beside the river. I haven’t seen mountains since I left Ezhou.

I bought sheep and wine, and parked a boat at the waterside next to the village. Because it was the Double Ninth Festival, I killed a sheep, bought several boats, and finished it in a short time. I bought some chrysanthemums from a house by the river. They were fragrant and lovely, so I got drunk.

It started to rain at night and was very cold, so I started to put on the quilt. Original text (October) 21st.

Looking at Shimen Pass from the boat, only one person can pass it, which is the most dangerous place in the world. In the evening, I stopped in Badong County. The mountains and rivers were majestic, and I won a great victory over Zigui.

However, Jingyi is extremely depressed. There are only a hundred households in the city. From Lingshi to the lower part, there are Maocs without any tiles. Wang Kangnian, the official of Zigui, Youdi Gonglang, the official of Quan County, and Dude, the official of Youdi Gonglang, the Wei and Chief Secretary of Zigui, came first, both of whom were from Shu.

Visit Kolai Gong’s ancestral hall, climb the Autumn Wind Pavilion, and look down at the mountains and rivers. It was an overcast day with a slight snowfall, and the weather was stale. When I looked back at the name of the pavilion, I felt sad and felt like I was wandering to the end of the world.

Then he climbed to Shuangbai Hall and Baiyunting. There was a cypress planted by Lai Gong under the hall, but it is now dead.

However, Nanshan is beautiful and lovely. Baiyun Pavilion is a mysterious and desperate place in the world, surrounded by mountains, with ancient trees appearing one after another, often two or three hundred years old.

Outside the fence, twin waterfalls cascade into the stone stream. Jumping beads splash jade, and the coldness penetrates into human bones. Below it is Cixi, which flows to meet the river.

I entered Chu from Wu and traveled more than five thousand miles, passing through fifteen states. The pavilions and pavilions were not as beautiful as those of Baiyun, and I stopped at the county seat after hearing the news. There is nothing wrong with Badong, so I can sleep in it. 2. Classical Chinese translation Lu You’s entry into Shu

Original text On the 23rd, I passed Wushan Ningzhen Temple [1] and paid a visit to Miao Yongzhen Temple [2].

The real person is the so-called Wushan goddess [3]. The temple is facing Wushan Mountain, with its peaks rising into Xiaohan [4], and the foot of the mountain plunging directly into the river. The commentators call it Taihua, Heng, or Lu [5], but none of them are so strange.

However, the twelve peaks are not visible[6]. Of the eighty-nine peaks that can be seen, Goddess Peak is the most slender and steep[7], which is suitable for being entrusted by immortals[8]. Zhu Shiyun[9]: "Every August 15th night when the moon is bright, there is the sound of silk and bamboo[10]. Mountain apes are singing to and from the peak, and they gradually stop at the end of the day[11]."

Behind the temple , there is a stone altar halfway up the mountain, which is flat and open. It is said that "Xia Yu saw the goddess [12] and gave the talisman to write here."

The twelve peaks viewed from the altar are like barriers. On that day, the sky was clear[13], and there was no shadow in all directions[14]. However, there were a few white clouds on the Goddess Peak, like luan and crane dancing and lingering[15]. They lingered for a long time, which may be different.

There were hundreds of people in the temple, seeing off guests and welcoming boats. Translation On the 23rd, I passed the Ningzhen Temple in Wushan and paid a visit to the ancestral hall of Miao Yongzhenren.

The real person is what everyone calls the Wushan Goddess. The ancestral hall is facing Wushan Mountain. The peaks are so high that they reach into the sky, while the foot of the mountain plunges directly into the river. People who discussed it said that Mount Tai, Huashan, Hengshan and Lushan are not as unique as Wushan.

However, not all of the twelve peaks can be seen. Among the eight or nine peaks that can be seen, only the Goddess Peak is slim, slender, steep and varied, and is indeed suitable as the incarnation of the Goddess. The person who presided over the sacrifice in the temple said: "Every year on the night of August 15th, when the moon is bright, you can hear beautiful orchestral music. Walking back and forth on the top of the mountain, you can hear the cries of the apes on the mountain, which gradually fades away at dawn. Stop."

Behind the temple, there is a stone altar halfway up the mountain, which is relatively flat. Legend has it that "Xia Yu met the goddess, and it was here that the goddess gave the talisman to Yu."

Looking at the twelve peaks from the stone altar, they look like barriers. On this day, the sky was clear, and there was no cloud or smoke around. There were only a few white clouds on the Goddess Peak, like phoenixes and white cranes dancing and walking there, and they did not disperse for a long time. This was also a very strange phenomenon.
