History of Yuanshan Temple
The ancient temple of Yuanshan has experienced ups and downs and several repairs. Since the 22nd year of Guangxu reign in Qing Dynasty, it has been scheduled to be restored once every ten years. Due to regular maintenance, it is well protected. Up to now, Yuanshan Temple still attaches great importance to double-eaved arches and carved beams and painted buildings. All kinds of wood carvings, stone carvings, porcelain inlays, flowers, birds, insects and fish are full of fun, and the top of the palace and the high ridges are flying. All kinds of copper castings, jade carvings, ceramics and clay sculptures in the temple have both form and spirit and exquisite craftsmanship. It makes people feel the magnificent, solemn and dignified architectural features and craft treasures of the Ming and Qing Dynasties. It greatly embodies the superb talent of China construction workers and shines with the brilliance of Chinese national wisdom. It is the largest scenic spot in Lufeng with the most complete cultural relics protection and rich historical, scientific and artistic value.
Mysterious gods are enshrined in the Yuanshan Temple, and there is still a plaque of "Wudang Feitian", but there are also Buddha statues such as Sakyamuni, Guanyin Bodhisattva and Maitreya Buddha in the temple, so the Yuanshan Temple has both Buddhist and Taoist characteristics and is rare in the world. It enjoys a high reputation among overseas Chinese, especially compatriots from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan who speak Minnan. It is an ancient temple with a long radiation radius and is called "Baowai Township" (another folk saying: Xuanwu Mountain Buddha shows Chaozhou). Jieshiwan Note: Chaozhou here refers to the former Chaozhou House.
