Lu Wei’s main deeds

On July 20, 2014, leaders of the Fengtai Works Section of the Beijing Railway Bureau made a special trip to Shanpao Village, Laiyuan County, and presented a banner with the words "Love the Railway, Ensure Safety" to villager Lu Wei, and also Lu Wei was awarded a bonus of 10,000 yuan. On July 15, 2014, Lu Wei risked his life to stop a train during heavy rain, thus avoiding a major accident.

At 5 pm on July 15, 2014, the Wangan Town area of Laiyuan County suffered from strong convective weather, with heavy rain mixed with hail pouring down. Lu Wei, a villager from Shanpao Village who was grazing sheep on the hillside next to the Jingyuan Railway, was trapped on the mountain by heavy rain. He found that due to the steep slope and heavy rain, mudslides occurred in many places along the Jingyuan Railway. In particular, a huge debris flow rushed directly between the No. 1 and No. 2 culverts of the Erdao River, submerging the railway tracks within a few minutes.

At this moment, the train roared in the distance, and Lu Wei suddenly realized, "Oh no, something big is going to happen." In desperation, Lu Wei put down his flock of sheep, braved heavy rain and hail, and risked being swept away by mudslides, rolling down the hillside and running towards the railway. He once worked on the railway and knew the risks and difficulties of rashly stopping a train in the wind and rain. But at the critical moment, he did not retreat at all. After bypassing the cave, running onto the viaduct, facing the roaring train, Lu Wei jumped to the center of the railway, made an emergency braking gesture, and continued running towards the train. At this time, the train driver may have vaguely seen Lu Wei standing on the railway, and continuously blew his whistle to warn him. Amidst the roaring whistle, Lu Wei kept running forward so that the driver could clearly see the sign language signal he sent. 200 meters, 100 meters, 80 meters, the sign language information was not accurately understood by the driver. Anxious and helpless, Lu Wei could only jump out of the railway track at the critical moment, turned around and ran side by side with the train along the railway, continuing to sign the emergency signal as he ran. Braking gesture, fighting for the last little bit of hope.

There was a loud "crack" sound, the wheels scraped against the rails, sparks emitted, and they braked suddenly beside Lu Wei. The driver finally received the sign language message from Lu Wei. When the train stopped steadily in front of the mudslide, Lu Wei let out a sigh of relief and slumped beside the railway. Several big bumps on his head and multiple bruises on his body made him feel bursts of pain. When he returned to the hillside, his sheep were missing by 21.

Sun Bo, director of the Wang'an Town line workshop of the Fengtai Works Section of the Beijing Railway Bureau, said: "If Lu Wei hadn't stopped the train at that time, it would have been difficult for the driver to detect the danger ahead in the heavy rain, and even if he found a mudslide, it would have been difficult to stop it. , once the train hits a mudslide, it is very likely to cause the train to derail, or even fall off the bridge, with disastrous consequences."

Lu Wei lost 21 sheep, which cost him about 30,000 to 40,000 yuan. It’s more than my family’s annual income. Lu Wei had several scratches on his body.

Yu Changqing, deputy secretary of the village party branch of Shanpao Village, said that some villagers lost their pigs a while ago, and Lu Wei rode a motorcycle to help find them. When he was herding sheep, he picked up 7,000 yuan. Lu Wei inquired about it and returned it to the owner's home.
