abstract
The legendary ranger, a famous doctor, likes adventure. Once in Thailand, she bravely saved the daughter of the chieftain, Ba Zhu, who lost her head, but was cursed with seven blood curses. Thanks to Ba's own amulet, she survived! The unknown blood curse did not disappear when I returned to Hong Kong. Suddenly, my original blood burst, so I urgently asked Wesley for help. Wei Nai and Yuan returned to Thailand to find Ba Zhu to find the transparent beads of the Buddha to unlock the spell, but they were repeatedly stopped by the witches and demons of the clan. Finally, Wei used the magic weapon of the Baitai couple to destroy the wizard and lifted the curse for the original Ba couple.

This is a legendary film, full of mystery, with a good story and thrilling fighting scenes. However, some places can't satisfy the audience for two reasons: first, science fiction films win by reasoning suspense and unknown scientific scenes, while this film tends to be a hodgepodge of treasure hunting modes; Secondly, this film is a story pieced together according to Wesley's novel ideas, not Wesley's original work, which is suspected of grandstanding.
Of course, despite the above reasons, this film is also a good commercial film.
Wesley and Hong Kong Films
Many people like me like reading Wesley's novels.
Wesley is Ni Kuang. His specialty is making money with pens. He made a lot of money (some people say that he is the only one who made a fortune by writing). As the old saying goes, Ni Kuang and David Henry Hwang are two literary stars in Hong Kong, while Ni Kuang and his sister Yi Shu are representatives of popular literature in Hong Kong. He writes many things, such as novels (mostly martial arts and science fiction), essays and plays. Of course, what he is best at is science fiction. Wesley's science fiction is plain, but he has a super ability to conceive stories and fantasies. Legendary stories and whimsical sci-fi ideas attracted everyone.
When Jin Yong's Liang Yusheng's novels were popular in Chinese mainland, Wesley's novels were deliberately not introduced (perhaps because of his political views). However, when Jin Yong's novel Gu Yusheng was put on the screen, Wesley's novels were not so blessed. Why did you touch it? In fact, people like Wesley, the legendary ranger, Luo Kai and Gundam have been deeply rooted in the hearts of the people. Bad science fiction theme? I can't help it. Many sci-fi movies in Hollywood are very influential!
The reason is puzzling. Maybe Hong Kong people don't like or are not good at making sci-fi movies (in fact, there are still some), maybe there are no famous masterpieces (Hong Kong movies are famous for following the trend), maybe the cost is too high or geographical restrictions, who knows?
However, there are still some Wesley movies.
The film Legend and the Legend of Wesley took a lot of effort. The actors alone invited two famous stars, Chow Yun Fat (Wesley) and Maggie Cheung. In addition, martial arts star Siu-ho Chin played the role of the legendary ranger. The story is about the head fall of the legendary ranger when he arrived in Nanyang, and treasure hunting. I wasn't sure, so I asked Wesley again. This is a legendary film, full of mystery, with a good story and thrilling fighting scenes. But I'm not satisfied for two reasons: First, science fiction films win by reasoning suspense and unknown scientific scenes, while this film tends to be a chaotic treasure hunt mode. Secondly, this film is a story pieced together according to Wesley's novel ideas, not Wesley's original work, which is suspected of grandstanding. Of course, despite the above reasons, this film is also a good commercial film.
The Legend of Wesley was shot earlier, about 1980, but it was not bad. Wesley was played by the then superstar Samuel Hui, Joey Wong played Essence, and Tommy Tam played Bai Qiwei. Like the legend of Legends and Wesley, this film is also pieced together according to the concept of Wesley's novels, but the concept of this film is very consistent with the essence of Wesley's stories-in Wesley's stories, alien spacecraft are often used to explain religious relics and make legends and associations, and the contradiction between Bai Qiwei and Wesley is also well handled. Finally, the shot of "Flying Dragon in the Sky" is quite standard. At that time, the cast was not bad, and the dwarf teddy robin (the director of this film) also performed well. It's basically a combination of music legend and science fiction.
The film Old Cat is based on Wesley's novel of the same name, in which Li Zixiong plays Wesley. The film is basically loyal to the original, and only a few minor changes have been made in the whole incident. However, due to the novel itself and the cost, the film was not very successful, and the time was only over 80 minutes. In some places, it was like a horror film (the novel was also a bit scary). It is worth mentioning that the protagonist in the film, the old cat, still left a deep impression on people.
Mirage is an early film. I don't remember whether the hero's name is Wesley, but it doesn't matter, because I clearly remember that the plot of the movie comes from the novel Virtual Image. Wesley became a reporter in the film (a combination of two roles). In addition, great changes have taken place in the historical background. It seems that he does not play much in science fiction, but emphasizes human nature. The whole movie seems to have some fable flavor. Even so, the story structure is almost the same as the original, which also shows Wesley's talent in weaving legends, because the story is both romantic and cruel.
In addition, it is said that there is another movie, Overlord of Wesley, which has never been seen (perhaps Legend of Wesley), while the legendary Blue Blood Man (starring Andy Lau) has always been like a shadow in the wind, which is difficult to capture and I don't know when it will come out. I think Wesley's movies should be more than that (and I watch fewer movies).
However, we can't just look at Wesley's influence in the film industry with these films. In fact, some of Wesley's sci-fi ideas have been deeply rooted in the hearts of the people. When Hong Kong's films express some mysterious phenomena, they are subtly influenced by Wesley's thoughts. For example, in the explanation of ghosts (some movies in Hall 7, July 14th and Yin Yang Road series). ), the head fell to the ground (many people forgot their names, mostly bad movies, "Top Ten Witches" and so on. ), aliens ("Mr. Han Xing", "Heaven and Earth Ambition", etc. ), and so on, it is worth mentioning. The former (directed by Chen Jiashang) has a good conception and performance, which can be regarded as excellent science fiction works in recent years. Ten of them have the style of Wesley stories, while the latter is composed of several short stories, mainly some traditional things, such as the going out of the original god, the face of a cow's head, etc., which is similar to Wesley's explanation.
Although Hong Kong's sci-fi movies are underdeveloped and involve some traditional things called superstitions, after all, many filmmakers have made bold explorations and believe that there will be many sci-fi masterpieces in the future, of which Wesley should naturally contribute.

Brief introduction of Ni Kuang
Hong kong writer. 1935 was born in Ningbo, Zhejiang, and was born in Shanghai. 1957 went to Hong Kong, worked as a worker, proofreader and editor, and became a professional writer by himself. His writing style is very wide, and his novels include detective, science fiction, genie, martial arts and romance. The writing speed is also amazing. He can write 4,500 words per hour, and at the same time he has written serials for 12 newspapers. Martial arts novels represented by six fingers have a strange imagination. During his stay abroad, he also wrote a series of "Eight Dragons" on behalf of Jin Yong (this part was later deleted when Jin Yong rewrote it).
His martial arts novels mainly include flying needle, ghost world, iron fist, night dunk, big salt owl, one-armed knife, red flying goose, giant soul palm, ranger, hero in the ice, six fingers, five tigers slaying dragons, chivalrous gold powder, hero's last sword and golden whirlwind.

Ni Kuang's science fiction.
Ni Kuang's influence in China's sci-fi world should never be underestimated, as can be seen from the fact that his novels are still so popular after 30 years, causing such extensive controversy. Although Wesley's novels were once banned in the 1980s, it turns out that what people like can never be banned, just as Ni Kuang himself said: official ban, popular biography. Wesley's "Blue Blood Man" can be the only sci-fi work selected in the top 0/00 of China's novels in the 20th century, which also proves that Ni Kuang occupies a very important position in China's sci-fi world.
For a long time, the writing style of Ni Kuang's works has not been accepted by the mainstream sci-fi circles in China, and even criticized as martial arts novels in the cloak of science fiction, which has a lot to do with the historical background of Ni Kuang at that time. When Ni Kuanggang arrived in Hong Kong, it was when the new school of martial arts novels headed by Jin Yong and Liang Yusheng became popular, and martial arts almost became the mainstream culture in Hong Kong at that time. In addition, although Hong Kong's economy developed rapidly under the relatively open policy at that time, people's cultural knowledge and scientific literacy did not improve much. Most people don't know what science fiction is. Even if few people know about aliens, it is only regarded as a mysterious event. This cultural condition has always determined Ni Kuang's creative style. Just imagine, under that condition, if Liu and Yang Lv were out, what a profound theory it would be and how many people could understand it?
The biggest controversy caused by Ni Kuang in China is whether what he wrote is real science fiction. The anti-Wei school's views on this issue are often extreme, and Wesley's novels are often bland. Some have only read the works of the late Wei Dynasty, even pseudographs, and their evaluations are somewhat biased and not objective enough. Of course, it does not rule out that some people simply want to take the opportunity to belittle others and raise themselves to show how high their cultural taste is. In a word, the views of anti-Wei school are similar. To put it mildly, this is fantasy, to put it mildly, this is pseudo-science fiction. Someone once said: Wesley's novels are bizarre, how to compile them. In the end, they couldn't justify themselves, so they blamed everything on omnipotent aliens. Yes, some of Wei's later works are indeed like this, but his early works are not like this. Please read the synopsis of several novels that I think are worth recommending:
"The Heart of the Earth": A very hard work, and some scenes are quite magnificent. A scientific madman who tries to rule the world uses a supercomputer and a powerful nuclear device buried underground to make lava from the center of the earth spew out from any corner of the earth under his control. Under the temptation of conquest and power, even Wesley could not help but begin to waver, but finally he overcame his greed and shattered the dream of the madman.
Bee Cloud: The development of gene technology was foreseen in the 1960s. Alien microorganisms that split and multiply suddenly appeared on the earth, and unexpectedly combined with terrestrial organisms to mutate into terrible new species. In a short period of time, mysterious creatures with huge size appear constantly, and terrorist incidents occur one after another. Just as the earth's military was preparing to destroy these aliens in one fell swoop, all the aliens suddenly disappeared. No matter what these creatures become, they can't change their genetic memory of their hometown, which finally makes them fly back to their own planet.
Blue Blood Man: It is Wesley's first time to write about aliens, which is somewhat naive. Saturn, with blue blood, came to the earth and inadvertently brought a terrible parasite' poison room'. During the 200 years on earth, innocent blue-blooded people were deceived and persecuted by cunning earthlings, and became a complete poor man. He began to distrust any earthlings, and with the help of Wesley, he finally had the opportunity to secretly return to Mars by earthlings rocket. Before leaving the earth, the blue-blooded man with good nature risked his life.
Demon Fire: The ending is quite tragic and touching. A group of terrorist organizations that want to dominate the world are hiding in a secret military base under the Atlantic Ocean. While collecting scientific furniture from all over the world for their own use, they are also engaged in armament. A young scientist didn't want to be driven by terrorists, but before his research was completed, he endured the misunderstanding of others and cooperated with terrorists for the time being. Finally, his research succeeded. Just as these lunatics were preparing for a large-scale attack, he turned everyone in the submarine base into nothingness with his own invented biotechnology.
Toys: There is a strong sense of oppression when watching The Matrix and Thirteen Floors. Aliens caught many earthlings as toys for them to play with. Some people are willing to live a comfortable life at the mercy of aliens, while others (including Wesley) want to pursue real freedom and go through all kinds of hardships. He finally escaped from the alien planet, and when Wesley was glad, he discovered that his escape process was only part of the alien game. ........
Law: Science fiction related to psychology. What is the perfect means of killing is to let the murdered person commit suicide. The poor professor didn't know that his private life had been secretly monitored for three years, and it was all recorded. When he saw the real video recording his daily life, he found that he followed a rule and did the same thing every day, which was no different from the ground bee in his laboratory. The professor suddenly felt that he had lost the value of being a man and ended his life in complete despair.
Anyway, just reading these story briefs is shocking enough. Can you still say that these are not science fiction? What a bold imagination! Even Jin Yong commented: "Infinite universe, infinite time and space, infinite possibilities and impermanent life, this eternal contradiction is woven from this head." Some people may not be used to Wei's narrative style and think it is soft science fiction. Even soft science fiction is better than the sour' graceful school' with neither plot nor connotation.
In addition, some people attack Ni Kuang's poor writing style, which is simply nonsense. Ni Kuang is the only one who writes for Jin Yong. Jin Yong went abroad for a meeting when he serialized Eight Branches of Dragon and Tiger, and Ni Kuang wrote. As a result, "Dragon Eight Branches" became the most "divine" one of Jin Yong's fifteen martial arts novels. In addition, Ni Kuang made body double for Gu Long many times. He, Jin Yong and Huang Zongxi are also known as the four great talents in Hong Kong. Some people even say that Ni Kuang and David Henry Hwang are satellites in the sky, which split in two.
Apart from Ni Kuang's imagination and writing style, what I appreciate most is the same theme in his novels: exposing the dark and ugly side of human nature. Personally, a successful writer must have a profound theme in his works. His works mainly show the conflict between the development of science and humanities and ethics, such as Skyfire and Song of Life, while Liu's novels mainly show people's pursuit of science and fearless sacrifice spirit, such as Tao and Ground Fire. Ni Kuang's description of human nature has reached the point of agility, with humorous ridicule and serious criticism. Many plots are sinister earthlings and aliens playing in a daze It seems that meanness and filth have become the nature of only people on earth. In his works, both the madman and the villain become funny clowns, or are laughed at or reviled. Some are very classic languages: a person can do such a thing like an animal, but it is actually an insult to say so, because animals will not do such a thing. Only humans can do such despicable things. Humans are worse than animals.
In addition, Ni Kuang opposes all forms of hegemonism, including the Soviet Union and the United States during the Cold War, and the autocratic monarchy in some countries. Because Ni Kuang was persecuted in the mainland in his early years, he was very dissatisfied with the mistakes of our great leader in his later years. Like the article Feng Shui, he vividly described a crazy movement in the "crazy age" of the Cultural Revolution: in order to overthrow a central leader, a mighty "revolutionary team" went to the north and south of the country just to dig up the leader's ancestral grave. I dare say that no writer in China can describe the Cultural Revolution so vividly as Ni Kuang, which shocked people who have not experienced that era. The Big Secret is also a very interesting novel. I remember smiling at that time: why did great leaders make such low-level mistakes in their later years? Is there a huge secret behind it? There is not much damage to the glorious image of the great leader in the novel. Ni Kuang's teasing was just to show his incomprehension of that crazy era.
Unfortunately, the imagination of Ni Kuang's later works is not as good as before, which gives people the impression that Wesley is really old. Moreover, at this stage, Ni Kuangtai is obsessed with ghosts and gods. According to Ni Kuang's theory, the soul is just a group of memories left in space after death. It has its own energy, which can be received by special instruments and even enter other people's bodies. What people call the underworld is just a place where aliens collect the souls of people on earth. The different descriptions of the underworld in the East and the West are because different aliens manage different kinds of people's souls. Undeniably, these novels are designed to satisfy the curiosity of some readers, and it is a novel writing method to explain feudal superstition with scientific theory. Although Ni Kuang's novels are also very attractive, they do not conform to the serious spirit of scientific research, so such works should be classified as fantasy or fantasy novel. But we can't deny Ni Kuang's great contribution to science fiction literature. Although Newton devoted himself to theology in his later years, he did not seem to be a great scientist.
