There are actually 50 temples on a mountain. What is going on?
There are actually 50 temples on one mountain, because this mountain is Mount Putuo, known as the Land of Sea and Sky Buddhism. This mountain is located on an island on the edge of Hangzhou. There are many temples on the island, so it has the reputation of "Haitian Buddhism". There are nine scenic spots here, each with its own characteristics, but the main focus is still the Buddhist and Taoist temples. Although there are fifty temples on the mountain, three are the most famous.
The first one is Puji Zen Temple, which is located at the foot of the mountain and is the largest temple on the island. Most people come here to worship Buddha. It is said that it is very effective for unmarried men and women to seek marriage here. All the more important Buddhist events on the mountain are held here. The second temple is Fayu Temple, which is built halfway up the mountain. It is the highest-standard and most exquisite temple on the mountain. Although its size is not as large as the Puji Temple mentioned above, it is only slightly smaller in size.
The most distinctive feature of this temple is that some of the glazed tiles on the roof were moved from the Ming Dynasty palace in Nanjing. It is also a major feature of the temple on the mountain and a precious cultural relic. There are many precious ancient trees next to the temple. This temple has the same opening hours as the temple above and can be visited in about an hour.
The third temple is called Huiji Zen Temple. This temple is located on the top of a mountain and has the most distinctive garden features. It is also the highest temple in the mountain. The entire temple is surrounded by green trees and hidden in the lush green scenery. Like the temple above, it is also covered with colorful glazed tiles, including blue, green, yellow, purple and so on. When the weather is good, it is very beautiful to see the reflection of the sun from above, like the light of Buddha during pilgrimage.
