"Flattery" stands for Fengcheng. How is it extended?
There are different opinions about how to extend flattery, and the mainstream views are as follows.
One is that when we were in the Mongolian grassland, everyone was riding horses. When two people want to see each other, they pat each other's horse's ass, then praise each other and praise each other's horse, which shows their respect for each other. At the beginning, they all praised each other sincerely, just like two close friends meet now, see each other's clothes are beautiful, and praise each other sincerely. But later, in order to please some people, no matter whether their horses are good or not, some people have to pat each other's horses on the ass and praise them. Flattery has turned into flattery for some people.
There is also a saying that a rich local man got a good horse. The more he looks at his horse, the better he is. He was very happy, so he invited his three sons-in-law to his house and asked them to praise his horse in turn. In order to please their father-in-law, the three sons-in-law naturally tried their best to praise his father-in-law's horse. The eldest son-in-law and the second son-in-law are very knowledgeable and naturally know what beautiful words to praise the horse. At this time, the third son-in-law saw that his two brothers-in-law were better than he said. The father-in-law was happy and anxious, and patted the horse's ass. At this time, the horse farted, and the third son-in-law said? The horse farts, and the father-in-law rides to Huiji for tens of thousands of miles, leaving the fart door open. ? The old rich man smiled naturally. Later, people used it as a metaphor to tell some lies in order to please others, which is called flattering others.
There is also a story from Zhuangzi's fourth "On Earth", which says that there is a horse owner who takes good care of his horse. Even horses have to use things to shit and pee, for fear of not taking good care of them. One day, he found a mosquito bite on the horse's ass and hit it with a racket. The horse stopped moving. He also found mosquitoes on the horse's legs and patted them. The horse kicked him in the chest and died instantly. This story tells us that flattery is flattery, whether others need it or not.
