How long does the NBA draft start?

Time: from the end of June to the beginning of July

New season:165438+1October

This year is the early morning of 26th Beijing time.

The NBA draft is an annual NBA event. In the draft, 30 NBA teams can choose young male players who want to join the NBA. These players usually come from American university-level competitions, but in recent years, more and more international players and high school graduates have been selected. The selected player is called a rookie. There are two rookie selections in NBA, one is the best rookie in NBA, and the other is the selection of NBA All-Star Rookie Game.

Draft plan

-

The NBA draft is divided into two rounds, and each team selects players according to predetermined rules. The current rule is that the top pick belongs to the team that did not enter the playoffs that year (currently 14 team), and these teams will draw lots to decide the draft order; The next pick is reserved for those teams that make it to the playoffs. The team with poor performance in the regular season is at the top, so the team with the best performance in the regular season is at the bottom; For example, in the 2004 NBA draft, the last place was not the Detroit Pistons, but the Indiana Pacers with the best record in the regular season.

The order of the second draft is the same as that of the first draft, but NBA teams will trade draft rights like players, especially the second draft rights. So the order of the second draft is sometimes very different from that of the first draft.

Every team in NBA must choose at least one rookie in the whole draft. At the same time, NBA rules also prohibit any team from trading first-round draft picks for the next two consecutive years. The introduction of this rule was partly due to the operation of Cleveland Cavaliers in the early 1980s. During the period from 1980 to 1983, Cleveland Cavaliers owner Ted Stephon manipulated a series of questionable transactions, which made the Cavaliers lose the first round draft pick for several years. These deals almost ruined the knight. The NBA pressured Stapin to sell the Cavaliers. In order to get a stable local boss Gordon Gunder, the NBA gave the Cavaliers several future draft picks.

Please note that this rule only limits each team to have one first-round draft, not each team to have its own first-round draft. Here are some examples to illustrate this rule. Suppose the 2005 NBA draft has been completed:

Suppose the San Antonio Spurs didn't have the first-round draft pick in 2005, but they have the first-round draft pick every year. Spurs are free to trade their first-round draft picks in 2006, because the 2005 draft pick is no longer a' future' draft pick, but they can't trade the first-round draft picks in 2007 or any two consecutive years at the same time.

In 2007, the Spurs won the first draft pick through post-draft trading. At this time, they can trade the first-round draft picks in 2006 and 2007, because they still hold the first-round draft pick in 2007.

Collective bargaining agreement

-

All American college players automatically qualify for the draft after they are qualified to participate in college CBA competitions, while international players who have not participated in college competitions automatically qualify after they reach the age of 22. In addition, by 2005, American players can apply for draft qualification at any time between graduation from high school and the end of college competition qualification, while international players can apply for draft qualification after 18 birthday; However, since 2006, American players have indicated that they need to meet the following two conditions to qualify for the draft:

Graduated from high school for at least one year.

In the draft year of 65438+February 3 1, he changed to 19.

For international players, only the second condition needs to be met to apply for draft qualification.

The age limit is part of the new labor agreement between the NBA league and the players' union.

The NBA has set two draft qualification announcement dates. All players who want to participate in the draft but do not automatically qualify for the draft need to declare their qualifications on or before the first day. After that, the league will set up some training camps before the draft, so that players who may participate in the draft can show their abilities and skills to the team, and the team may also observe their personalities. Players can make a decision to withdraw their draft qualification statement before they finally announce their participation in the draft (one week before the draft).

Players who declare their draft qualifications will not automatically lose their college competition qualifications unless they declare their last year's draft qualifications and go back on their word. If the draft qualification statement is not withdrawn before the final announcement of the draft day, players will be disqualified from the university competition regardless of whether they are selected or not. In addition, signing a contract with a broker will automatically terminate the qualification of college competitions. Players can withdraw the draft qualification statement at most once.

Each team is required to sign a contract with the players selected in the first round for at least one year and have the exclusive right to sign a contract with the players selected in the second round within three years.

The higher the draft pick, the higher the player's value. The top draft pick is usually the best player among the rookies. But being the top pick in the draft doesn't necessarily mean being a superstar. Michael Jordan ranked third in the 1984 NBA draft, but was generally regarded as the best player in history. The two players in front of him explained the uncertainty of the draft. Heiken Olajuwon, a top scholar, was sure to enter the Basketball Hall of Fame because of his career, but sam bowie, who ranked second, became a passer-by, and his career was plagued by injuries.
