Here is a brief introduction.
The Da Vinci Code (ISBN 0385504209) was written by American writer dan brown and published by Random House on March 8, 2003. This book broke the sales record of American novels with 7.5 million copies. At present, the global cumulative sales volume has exceeded 40 million copies, making it the best-selling novel in history. Combining detective, thriller and conspiracy theory, this book arouses the public's interest in some theories, such as the legend of the Holy Grail and the role of Mary Magdalene in Christian history, which are usually regarded as heresy by Christians. This is the sequel to Brown's 2000 novel Angels and Demons.
In 2004, Random House republished this book as a "special illustrated edition". The new version contains more than 160 pictures with descriptions.
brief introduction
Leonardo da Vinci's Vitruvian Man. Jacques Sauniere, the famous curator of the Louvre, was found murdered on the floor of the Louvre. His body posed as a Vitruvian in Leonardo da Vinci's famous paintings. He wrote secret messages around him and drew a five-pointed star symbol on his stomach with his own blood. The protagonist of this book is a professor of religious semiotics at Harvard University, who solved the murder of the famous Louvre curator Jacques Sauniere. The title of the novel means that Sauniere's naked body was found in the Louvre in the form of Leonardo da Vinci's famous painting "The Vitruvian Man", and Sauniere wrote a secret message beside him and drew a five-pointed star symbol on his stomach with his own blood. The hidden information in some famous works of Leonardo da Vinci, including Mona Lisa and The Last Supper, was exposed in the process of decryption.
The main conflict in the novel revolves around two mysteries:
What secret did Sauniere protect that led to his murder?
Who is behind the murder?
At the same time, the novel unfolds several story lines of different characters, and finally all the story lines come together and are solved at the end of the book.
In order to solve this problem, we need to solve a series of intellectual problems, including the ordering of letters in words and numbers. The truth of the puzzle finally points to the possible location of the Holy Grail and two secret organizations called the priory and the Templar. The Roman Catholic organization Opus Dei also appeared in the plot.
This novel is the second book written by Brown featuring robert langdon. The first film was Angels and Demons, which took place in Rome and was related to the Illuminati.
Character; function
The following are the main characters who promote the development of the story. It seems to be dan brown's style that the names of characters contain puns, misplacements, or hidden clues.
Robert langdon is a famous professor and scholar of religious symbolism in Harvard University. At the beginning of the novel, he is giving a speech in Paris, making an appointment with Jacques Sauniere, the curator of the Louvre, but suddenly he finds the French police at the door of the hotel room. The police informed him that Sauniere had been murdered, hoping that Langdon could go to the Louvre to help the police solve the case. In fact, Langdon is already the main suspect in this murder case, but he is kept in the dark. The police took him to the crime scene, hoping to get Langdon's confession.
Jacques Sauniere-curator of the Louvre, secret leader of the Aoshan priory, and the grandfather of Sophie Neve. Before being murdered by silas, an albino monk, Jacques Sauniere gave false information about the keystone of Silas monastery in the museum, which is said to contain hints about the correct location of the Holy Grail. After being shot in the abdomen, Jacques Sauniere spent the last period of his life, leaving a series of clues for his estranged granddaughter Sophie Neve, who could use these clues to solve the mystery of his death and protect the secrets kept by the priory. Jacques Sauniere's name may come from Bérenger Saunière, a real person, who is widely mentioned in Holy Grail.
The granddaughter of Sophie Neo-Jacques Sauniere. She is a cryptographer of the French government. When she was young, her parents died in a car accident and were raised by her grandfather. Her grandfather usually called her "Princess Sophie" and taught her how to solve complicated problems. When she was a little girl, she once found a mysterious key engraved with two capital letters "P.S." in her grandfather's room. Later, when she was in college, she wanted to surprise her grandfather and went directly to his home in Normandy, only to find that he was attending a mysterious religious ceremony. After the accident, she began to alienate her grandfather until his death.
Bezu fache)-investigation director of French Interpol. Tough, smart and determined, he was sent to take charge of the investigation in Sauniere. Judging from the clues left by the dead curator, Fache believed that the murderer was robert langdon, so he called him to the Louvre to confess. But Sophie never secretly informed Langdon, because she believed Langdon was innocent, which hindered Fache. Throughout the book, Fache followed Langdon secretly, because he believed that letting Langdon go would mean the end of his career. Bezu is not a common French name, but the name of a castle. Bezu gives people the first impression that it is a tumor cow, because Bezu is a homonym of zébu in French. Fache is an angry French homonym, but it is also a common French name.
Silas, a devotee with albinism, strictly abided by the precepts of physical penance, became an orphan in Marseilles when he was young, and then began a sinful life. He was imprisoned in Andorra in the Pyrenees until an earthquake caused the prison to partially collapse. He was sheltered by a young Spanish priest named Alinga Rosa, who named him Silas and later became the head of a major business association. Before the plot of the novel begins, Alinga Lothar asks him to contact his tutor and tells him that he will accept a mission that is crucial to saving God's Word. At the order of his tutor, he tried to get the keystone of the priory (French clef de vo? te; English is keystone, which means "the key to the vault"). Later, when he found himself cheated by false news, in order to get the real keystone, he went to Langdon and Neve. He doesn't know the true identity of his mentor, but he is just a killer who cooperates with him. He knew it was a sin, but he did these bad things only because he firmly believed that his actions could save the Catholic Church.
Manuel Alinga Aring Arosa Arosa, global leader of major chambers of commerce and benefactor of albino monk Silas. Five months before the story begins in the book, he was recalled by the Holy See to attend a meeting in an observatory in the Italian Alps, and was unexpectedly told that the Pope would withdraw his support for the Chamber of Commerce within six months. Because he believes that the main business will be the power to keep the church from being divided, he believes that loyalty requires him to take action to save the main business. Shortly after meeting with Vatican officials, a mysterious person who claimed to be a "mentor" contacted him, who learned the inside story of the secret meeting. The tutor told Alinga Lothar that he could give Alinga Lothar a stone statue of great value to the church, which would help his main business gain a great advantage in the Vatican. The name "Rosa Alinga" seems to be a literal translation of the Italian word "red herring" (Rosa Alinga and Rosa Alinga literally mean "pink herring"), although it is not actually used to mean "red herring" in Italian.
Teacher-a mysterious figure running through the whole story. He not only knows part of the plot of the main business association, but also knows the four elders of Lushan priory, who know the location of the keystone. He lured Alinga Rosa and promised him the greatest power in the main business association, and once the secret in the keystone was exposed, it would destroy his church. Alinga Lothar agreed to his proposal and was ordered to protect major business associations and churches. The tutor used the influence of Silas and Alinga Losa to complete his plan.
André Vernet, President of Zurich Savings Bank Paris Branch. When Neve and Langdon came to the bank and told him that Jacques Sauniere, a long-time customer of the bank, had passed away, he was very surprised that Neve now had the key to his account. After Nave and Langdon tried to open the bank safe with their keys, but they didn't know the number of the account behind them, Winnie became suspicious and said that they had no legal business in the bank. When he saw a newspaper report that he suspected Naif and Langdon were fugitives from Sauniere's murder, he came back to find them, only to find that they did enter the correct account number and took the contents of Sauniere's safe. He realized that according to the strict regulations of the bank, they were indeed legitimate customers of the bank, so he thought he had an obligation to help them escape. He pretended to be a bank driver and tricked the police into letting Langdon and Naif go hiding in the back seat of a bank truck. Later, he changed his mind and tried to stop them, but Langdon stole the truck and took Fu Na to the nearby castle of Langdon's friend Sir Leigh Teabing, which foiled Winnett's plot.
Sir Leigh Teabing, a British royal historian, royal knight, Grail scholar and friend of robert langdon, is an independent rich man who lives in a castle on the outskirts of Paris. He escaped from Zurich Savings Bank in Langdon and Neuf with a red wooden box with a key stone. He told Fu Na the "true" explanation of the Holy Grail (see below). After Silas and the French police found them at Jazz's home at the same time, the three men fled to England with Jazz's driver Remy on Jazz's private jet. When Fu Na opened the secret cylinder and took out the keystone, Sir explained that the riddle meant that they should go to London's Temple Church to look for hidden clues that could help them unlock the second combination lock of the keystone. It should be noted that Sir Leigh's name comes from the names of michael bay Gint and Richard Leigh, the authors of Holy Blood and Holy Grail. After the changes and reorganization of letters, the views in the book are very similar to Sir Leigh's.
Remy Lega Devin Lu, Leigh Tibin's driver, fled to England with Tibin, Langdon and Neve, and took them to the Temple Church in London. What others don't know, however, is that he actually works for a tutor. When they were in the Temple Church, he met Silas, who came here under the instruction of his tutor. Before others found out and solved the secret that might be hidden in the church, he entered the church with a pistol, took Tibin hostage and asked Langdon to hand over the keystone. After Langdon handed him the keystone, he and Silas took Tibin hostage and drove away in his car. Remy Martin is a famous cognac brand, and cognac has also influenced the fate of Remy Martin.
Instructor of Roslin Church-When he saw the red wooden box that Langdon and Neve were carrying and realized that it seemed to be exactly the same as another box owned by his grandmother, he was guiding them to visit Roslin Church.
Guardian of Roslin Trust-She is actually the wife of Jacques Sauniere and the grandmother of Sophie Neve. The tour guide is Sophie's brother. She thinks they have become the target of assassination by the church, because they know the powerful secret of Huanshan priory. Both she and Sauniere think that Sophie's brother should live in Scotland in secret. Although people speculate that Sophie's family is in the car, in fact, there are only Sophie's parents in the car. Sauniere told officials that Sophie's grandmother and her brother were also in the car. The Guardian told Neve and Langdon that although the Holy Grail and secret documents were buried in the underground palace of Roslin Church, the priory of Mount Zion had moved them to France several years ago. After reading the contents of the parchment in the second keystone, she understood the current location of the Holy Grail, but refused to tell Langdon, saying only that he would find out the location himself. She believes that the priory has no intention of revealing the secret of the Holy Grail at any scheduled time. She thinks that even if the secret is made public, it is meaningless, because even if the real stone statue is not found, the world is showing the true face and spiritual power of the Holy Grail. She also explained Sophie Neve's true ancestry.
Summary of important plots
Jacques Sauniere, the leader of the priory of Mount Huan, knows the secret of the "keystone", that is, the keystone can in turn reveal the hiding place of the Holy Grail, and the documents he holds will shake the foundation of Christianity and the Catholic Church. He was killed to force him to give up information, so that all members of the priory would be killed.
Sophie never lost contact with her grandfather, because she wanted to visit him suddenly during the school holidays, but she witnessed him attending the Hieros Gamos at his home in Normandy.
Sauniere's messages written on the ground with a Tibetan pen before his death also included "P.S.[ 1]: Find Rob Langdon". That's why bezu fache suspects Langdon is the murderer. Fache erased the itinerary before Langdon arrived, so Langdon didn't know that the police suspected him. By chance, when the police faxed the information to Sophie Neve's office, Sophie saw the complete content of the information. She immediately realized that this message was actually addressed to her, because when she was a child, her grandfather called her "Princess Sophie" (with the initials "P.S."). From this, she also understood that Langdon was innocent. When she and Langdon were in the Louvre, she told Langdon to call her private voice mail and listen to her messages, so as to tell Langdon about it in secret.
The writing of "p.s." is the abbreviation of the word "Post Script" commonly used in letters. However, for Sophie Neve, this is the abbreviation of "Princesse Sophie" and the nickname of her grandfather Sauniere. So bezu fache didn't realize the true meaning of this abbreviation in Father Sauniere's message, but Sophie Fu Na clearly understood that the words "Find Rob Langdon" were his grandfather's last words. In addition, the key of the safe kept in Sauniere is engraved with the abbreviation of priory, which is also P.S.
The other three lines in Sauniere's Blood Book, which seem to pray for monks, actually hide some real clues by disrupting the spelling order of letters (see word formation game of translocation). The first line is a set of Fibonacci sequences out of order. The second line is "Ah, dragon demon!" And the third line is "Oh, lame saint!" The true contents of "Da Vinci" and "Mona Lisa" in English are respectively. The real meaning of these clues can lead to a second set of clues. On the glass outside the oil painting Mona Lisa, Sauniere wrote the message "Human deception is so dark" with the hidden pen of the curator of the Louvre Museum, which can only be seen under ultraviolet radiation. The second clue is another Leonardo da Vinci oil painting "Madonna in the Rock" hanging nearby, which is hidden in the Louvre; This work was later redrawn as Our Lady of the Rock, which is now in the National Gallery of London. Sauniere hid a key behind the painting and wrote an address on the key with the curator's pen.
This key can open the safe of Zurich Savings Bank Paris Branch. Sauniere's account number in the bank is Fibonacci number in correct order.
Sauniere's instructions to Silas at gunpoint were actually an elaborate scam. He told Silas that the keystone was buried in Saint Sulpice in Paris, precisely under an obelisk on the ancient "Rose Line" (before redefining the prime meridian as passing through Greenwich Observatory, the zero meridian was defined as passing through Paris, and the Ross meridian refers to this ancient prime meridian). In fact, the message under the obelisk only mentions a passage in the Bible's Book of Job, "Stop here and don't go any further" (see Book of Job in the Old Testament 38: 1 1). Silas didn't realize that he had been cheated until he read this sentence.
The keystone is actually a cipher cylinder (a combination of cryptography and transcripts), a cylindrical device invented by Leonardo da Vinci to transmit confidential information. Only by combining the rotatable parts above (temporarily called the cipher wheel) in the correct order can it be opened. If opened by violence, a bottle of vinegar inside will break and dissolve the information written on papyrus. The red wooden box with the keystone contains clues about the correct combination order of the cipher wheels needed to open the keystone. Like Leonardo da Vinci's diary, these clues are written backwards. Langdon solved the mystery when he fled to England by Tibin's plane. He found that the correct combination of cipher wheel should be "S-O-F-I-A", which is the ancient Greek writing of Sophie's name and also means "wisdom".
In fact, there is a smaller secret cylinder in the keystone secret cylinder, and the combination of cipher wheels can be revealed by installing the second puzzle. This puzzle is about finding a ball on the tomb of a knight buried with a pope (note that the correct understanding of "a pope" is not "a pope", but "Pope Alexander", which is commonly called "a pope"), and it is not a medieval jazz. It refers to Sir isaac newton, who was buried in Westminster Abbey under the auspices of alexander pope. There is a huge spherical sculpture on the grave, but it is not what the riddle in the keystone says. The riddle in the keystone actually refers to the spherical object represented by apple, which led Newton to discover the law of gravity. The riddle thinks that this apple "should be in the grave", so the cipher wheel combination of the second secret cylinder should be "A-P-P-L-E"
The true identity of the "mentor" is actually Sir Leigh Teabing. He knew the identity of the leaders of the priory and installed bugs in their offices. Remy is his assistant. It was Tibin who contacted Bishop Lothar in Alinga with a disguised French accent, with the purpose of hiding his true identity and cajoling Lothar in Alinga into funding the plan to find the Holy Grail. Tai Bin never intended to give the Holy Grail to Alinga Lothar, but only wanted to find it with the help of the determination of the main chamber of commerce. However, he believes that the priory will break the oath of revealing the secrets of the Holy Grail to the world at the appointed time, so he plans to steal those documents of the Holy Grail and disclose them to the world in person. It was he who told Silas Langdon and Sophie that they had never been in his castle. He didn't take the keystone from Langdon and Sophie because he didn't want to reveal his identity to them. He had planned to let Silas break into his house and get the keystone, but when the police tracked the GPS equipment on the truck that Langdon stole, heard Silas shoot and went to Tibin's house to search, Tibin's plan fell through. Tybin took Neve and Langdon to Temple Church in London because he knew it was a dead end. He and Remy staged a hostage scene in order to get the keystone without revealing the real plot. When Silas and Remy were in the limousine, the phone call was actually from Tibin, who was hiding behind the limousine.
In order to shut him up, Tibin asked Remy to drink Connach brandy with peanut powder and removed Remy because he knew that Remy had a fatal allergic reaction to peanuts. Tibin anonymously reported to the police that silas was hiding in the London headquarters of the main chamber of commerce.
In Westminster Abbey, Langdon secretly opened the second secret container, took out its contents, and then destroyed it in front of Tibin. Just as Taibin begged Langdon in vain to tell us the contents of the second secret container and the secret storage place of the Holy Grail, the police arrested Taibin and took him away.
Bishop Alinga Lothar and Silas thought they were saving the church, not destroying it.
After discovering the eavesdropping device in the stable of Taibin Castle, bezu fache understood that Neve and Langdon were innocent.
Outside the London headquarters of a major British business association, Silas, who was escaping from the police, killed Alinga Lothar by mistake. After realizing the terrible mistake he was cheated into, Alinga Lothar asked bezu fache to give the coupon bonds in his briefcase to the family of the murdered priory leader as a little compensation for his conscience. Silas was shot and killed.

The last message contained in the second keystone did not actually indicate Roslin Church, although the Holy Grail was buried under the pattern of the big satellite on the floor there (the two interlocking triangles that make up the big satellite represent "blades" and "dinner cups", which are symbols of men and women).
The guide of Roslin Church is Sophie's long-lost brother.
The guardian of Roslin Church is Sophie's long-lost grandmother and the wife of Jacques Sauniere.
Although all four leaders of the priory were killed, the secret was not lost, because there was an (unspecified) emergency plan to ensure the survival of the organization and its secret.
The real meaning of the last message of the inverted pyramid in the Louvre photographed by Eric Pouhier is that the Holy Grail is buried under the small pyramid-shaped building (that is, the "dining cup" symbolizing women) directly below the inverted glass pyramid in the Louvre (that is, the "sword front" symbolizing men, and the relative position of the two pyramid-shaped buildings in the Louvre is somewhat similar to the relative way of the two triangles constituting the big satellite). Ironically, when Langdon and Sophie escaped from Bezu Fahi for the first time, they almost fell in. For more discussion, please refer to the pyramids in the Louvre.
At the end of the novel, Robert Langdon and Sophie never fell in love, and they agreed to meet in Florence.
The secret of the holy grail
According to the novel, the secret of the Holy Grail kept by the priory is as follows:
The Holy Grail is not a real goblet, but a woman named Mary Magdalene, who carries the blood of Christ.
In ancient French, the word San gréal means the Holy Grail, but it actually comes from the word San Ré al, which has been deliberately modified to literally mean "royal blood".
The remains of the Holy Grail consist of documents used to prove descent and the bones of Mary Magdalene.
The church concealed the truth about the blood of Mary Magdalene and Jesus for 2000 years. This is mainly because they are afraid of the power of what they describe as the devil worship of women (religious worship of women's reproductive ability).
Mary Magdalene is of royal blood (dating back to King Benjamin of the Jews) and is the wife of Jesus with royal blood of King David. The statement that she is a prostitute is a slander fabricated by the church to cover up the real relationship between them. She was pregnant at the crucifixion. After the crucifixion of Christ, she fled to Gaul and was protected by Jews in Marseilles. She gave birth to a daughter named Sarah. The lineage of Jesus and Ramaglia Magdalene later evolved into the French dynasty of MaiTam.
Sophie Neve and her brother are descended from the original lineage of Jesus and Mary Magdalene (their surnames were changed to Neve, which is similar to the word nephew in English to hide their true origin).
The existence of consanguinity is a secret contained in the documents discovered after the Crusaders occupied Jerusalem in 1099 (see Kingdom of Jerusalem). Both the priory and the Templar were established to keep this secret.
Part of Leonardo da Vinci's last supper. According to Sir Leigh Teabing's explanation of Sophie Neve, the figure on the right hand side of Jesus in the painting should be Mary Magdalene instead of St. John. She is the wife of Jesus and is pregnant with his child. The absence of a goblet in the painting shows that Leonardo da Vinci understood that Ramaglia Magdalene was actually the Holy Grail (the container containing the blood of Jesus). The "M" shape formed by the body posture of Jesus, Mary and her inclined male saint (St. Peter) further implies this point. This explanation shows that an important saint may have been omitted from the work. The Secret of the Holy Grail is related to leonardo da vinci's works as follows:
Leonardo da Vinci was a member of the Aoshan priory and knew the secret of the Holy Grail. In fact, the secret was revealed in The Last Supper, and there was no real cup on the table in the painting. The portrait of the man sitting next to Christ is not a man, but a woman, the wife of Jesus, Mary Magdalene. Most of the reproductions of this work were copied after a modification that concealed her obvious femininity.
Mona Lisa is actually a self-portrait of a woman painted by Leonardo da Vinci. This androgyny reflects the solemn union between men and women implied by the sacred union between Jesus and Mary Magdalene. This balance between yin and yang cosmic forces has long been a serious threat to the power of the church. The Mona Lisa's name was actually changed from "Amon L'Isa", which refers to the ancient Egyptian father and mother gods (named Amon and Ai Xisi, Amon and Isis).
The source and influence of inspiration
Novels are part of the revival of interest in Gnosticism in the late 20th century. The material of the novel mainly comes from the Holy Blood and the Holy Grail (page 253 of the original novel is different from other sources, and the name of the book is specifically mentioned). Some people claim that The Da Vinci Code is a legendary version of The Holy Blood and the Holy Grail, adapted from a series of short films broadcast by the BBC in the late 1970s. The similarities between them include the description of La Maria Magdalene as the living holy grail, the description of the sacred origin of the French dynasty, the mysticism involved in the book, the sages of ancient Egypt, the conspiracy in the Vatican, and the application of steganography. In the book "Holy Blood and Holy Grail", the oil painting "The Shepherd of Acadia" ("Et in Acadia's Self"). Note: The title of traditional Chinese painting is a familiar translation, but it is not accurate. In the history of western art, there are some different explanations about the meaning of Latin names of paintings and the hidden contents in paintings. French painter Pu Sang played the role given to Da Vinci by Brown, the author of The Da Vinci Code (many years later, one of the authors of The Holy Blood and The Holy Grail publicly admitted to the media that the whole story was fiction). As for Begent, one of the authors of The Holy Blood and the Holy Grail, the name of Tibin in Brown's story comes from rearranging the letters of Begent.
It is said that Brown also rewrote the theme of Robert Langdon's early novel Angels and Demons.
Umberto Echo's early book Foucault's Pendulum also involved in these religious plots, including (by the way) puns on the interpretation of Holy Blood and Temple, but it participated in it in a more critical way-in fact, this book is a literary satire on conspiracy theories and the futility of those who believe in conspiracy theories.
Christian liberalism is also considered to have influenced this book.
Social response was favorable.
Dan brown's novels were very successful in mid-2003, and their sales were even comparable to the popular Harry Potter series. A large number of related books have been published in this book, and it has won hot reviews in The New York Times, People Magazine and Washington Times [2]. Many people praised the plot of this book as intriguing and thought-provoking. This book has also rekindled people's interest in Catholic history.
criticize
Because this book begins with this sentence:
"All descriptions of works of art, buildings, documents and secret ceremonies in this book are accurate."
Many people think that The Da Vinci Code reveals the truth of Christian orthodoxy in the past. However, the research results have attracted negative criticism from Catholic and other Christian groups, historians, art historians and other readers, who complain that their research is too rough. Some historians believe that dan brown distorts history and sometimes even fabricates it. On the other hand, some people, including the author [3], point out that the opening statement does not claim that all the theories about Mary, Jesus and Christian history put forward by the characters in the novel are accurate.
Criticism includes:
325 years ago, followers of Christ thought he was just a "mortal prophet". It was Constantine who, through political means, made Christianity accept the divinity of Christ with a weak number of votes in the first Nicaean public meeting. Many authors quoted a lot of materials from the Bible and the godfather to expose this point before the first Nicaean public meeting. (See, for example, Olson and Meisel (2004), quoted in The Church in Crisis: A History of the General Council, 325- 1870 (1964). ) At the first Nicaean Conference, the key question was whether Christ and God were one, or whether Christ was first created, and whether he was second only to the Father and higher than other creatures (see Arioux's doctrine). The central topic of this book is the combination of goddess and men and women, which is an important task of pagan witchcraft in the modern new era movement and has never been a topic of early Christianity. Dan brown didn't cite the basis inside and outside the canon to support his argument. It can be considered that the role of Mary Magdalene in history is generally underestimated, which is based on scripture; But her affair with Christ is pure speculation; Even gnostic works outside the classics are not so outrageous.
Mary Magdalene belongs to the tribe of Benjamin (Chapter 58): There is no historical evidence. In fact, Magdalene lived in the north of Israel, while the Benjamin tribe lived in the south.
