Characteristics of Confucius Temple in Wenchang

The layout of the Confucian Temple is rigorous, symmetrical and broad. On the central axis of the front hall, there are statues of Xinghua Gate, Chi Pan, Zhuangyuan Bridge and Confucius. The main buildings in the backyard are Dacheng Gate and Dacheng Hall. The wide platform outside Dacheng Hall is called altar or altar, which is used for music, dance and salute during sacrifice. Dacheng Hall is a frame-type wooden structure with double eaves resting on the top of the mountain. It is simple and solemn. There is a statue of Confucius in the center of the hall. On both sides of the statue of Confucius, there are tablets of "Four Combinations" and "Twelve Philosophers" such as Yan Hui and Zeng Shen. Above the statue of Confucius, there are plaques such as "being a teacher for all generations".

There is a statue of Confucius in front of the gate of Wenchang Confucius Temple, and there are Confucius Temple, statue, memorial tablet, twelve philosophers and four monuments, emperor seal, plaque and couplets in Dacheng Hall. There are also Confucius proverbs, inscriptions by famous calligraphers, photo exhibitions of Confucius Temple in Beijing, Shandong, Confucius House and Confucius Forest, an atlas of Confucius' seventy-two disciples, a map of Confucius' holy land, and Wenchang entrance.

Wenchang Confucius Temple is the only Confucius Temple in China that does not face the south gate. It is said that the old Wenchang people once vowed that if Wenchang didn't win the first prize, the Confucius Temple wouldn't open. Wenchang has never been a champion, and the Confucius Temple has no gate so far, only a left and right side door.
