What does y mean?
Yttrium is a rare earth element. Rare earth elements refer to scandium, yttrium and all lanthanides. Because it is rare in the earth's crust, its oxide is similar to Turkish elements such as calcium oxide, hence the name.
The distribution of rare earth elements is scattered, the mineralization is chaotic, and the properties are extremely similar, so it is difficult to find, separate and analyze them.
Uses of yttrium:
Y is widely used in industry. It can be used as yttrium phosphor to make TV screens red, and it can also be used as a filter for some rays, superconductors, superalloys and special glasses. Yttrium is resistant to high temperature and corrosion, and can be used as cladding material of nuclear fuel.
Yttrium can form stable chelates with various amino carboxyl complexing agents; Nd-containing yttrium aluminum garnet is an excellent laser material, yttrium iron garnet is an excellent laser material, and yttrium iron garnet and yttrium aluminum garnet are new magnetic materials.
