Moses, what crime did he commit in Meribah?

At Meribah in Kadesh, the Lord performed signs to give Israel water to drink. However, Moses and Aaron did not sanctify the LORD in this matter.

People once again complained about the lack of drinking water. God ordered Moses to order rocks to come out of the water to meet people's needs. Moses did not command the rock, but struck it twice with his staff. Water flowed out of the rock, and God rebuked Moses and Aaron, saying, Because you didn't believe me and didn't sanctify me in the eyes of the Israelites, you will not lead this congregation into the land I gave them.

Moses is the greatest prophet. He is the supreme leader of the Jews. He was a soldier, politician, poet, moralist, historian and Hebrew legislator.

According to the Bible, he personally talked with God and was inspired by him to lead the Hebrews from Egypt to the promised land of God-now Israel (formerly known as Canaan) and get rid of slave life.

According to the Bible Exodus, when he led the Hebrews across the Red Sea, God separated the sea, exposing a dry land, and the sea built a wall around them. The Hebrews crossed the sea like land.
