The history and culture of Yuecheng Town

History of Shenpu Bridge: After the late Tang Dynasty and the Five Dynasties, more and more people from the Central Plains came to Jieyang from the south. They spread the advanced culture and science and technology of the Central Plains here, which promoted the continuous improvement of the production and living capabilities and moral quality of the local people. By the Song Dynasty, Jieyang had experienced unprecedented prosperity. In the eighth year of Chunxi reign, when the great poet Yang Wanli passed by here, he praised Jieyang highly: "The land is as flat as the palm of a hand and lined with trees. There are postal pavilions and beams in the wilds. The place that used to be at the bottom of Chaozhou now has better scenery than the south." The Shenpu Bridge at the junction of Dongsheng Village, Guiling Town, Jiedong County and Shuanghe Village, Yuecheng Town, was built against this background.

Legend of ancient Sophora japonica: Thousand-year-old Sophora japonica is a relic of the original forest. It is said that Yang Wen of the Song Dynasty lived in front of Huangqi Mountain during the Pingnan period. Looking into the distance at night, he saw two Sophora japonica trees flashing strange lights. They passed away. It is suspected that they were In the early Qing Dynasty, an eminent monk wandered here and looked at the tree. The king was always there, and there was a huge tree invisible. He said that the music of the piano echoed around the beams at night. He was afraid that the tea would poison the creatures, so he built Tianfu Temple one by one, used the divine light to drive away evil spirits, and erected stone monuments. Zhenzhi (lost), in the late Qing Dynasty, one day, dark clouds were gathering. Although the distance between the two tree kings was tens of meters, the treetops were tightly entwined, and the miasma was filled. With a thunderbolt, half of the ancient locust tree was chopped off. Now look at its stained marks. It's clear at a glance. As the moon turns and the stars move, bird droppings spread seeds, and banyan trees grow on the ancient locust trees, with dense branches and leaves, making it a spectacular sight. Therefore, the overseas edition of Shantou Daily reported extensively with the phrase "Huai Rong is the only unicorn in the town" and Rongjiang Newspaper used the phrase "Huai Rong conveys love". Visitors from far and near came in an endless stream and were amazed. The thousand-year-old locust tree is a rare treasure. I hope you will not carve it with a knife or break its branches. Protect ancient locust trees and prosper.

Guangfu Temple: Guangfu Temple is located in Liaodong Village. The solemn morning bells and evening drums in the temple, as well as the elegant and unique surrounding environment, make Guangfu Temple an excellent Feng Shui treasure place in Jieyang.

Zhipo Granary: Yuecheng Village is located in a plain area and mainly grows rice. To the west of the village, near the river, there is a small market, known as "Guochengwei". It is not large in scale, but due to the surrounding Many villages (including Tanwang and Tancai villages on the other side of the Rongjiang River) are far away from the county seat and there are no markets nearby, so they all come here to do business, and the economy is quite active. Since it became the administrative center of the commune, many supporting agencies of industry, communications, finance, trade, culture, and health have established offices here. Therefore, the scope of the market has expanded, street shops have been concentrated and fixed, and the markets of rural towns have been formally formed. Because Yuecheng Village is not far from the county seat and has very convenient water and land transportation, before liberation, it was an important place surrounding Jieyang County of the National Government, and a granary was set up here (located in the polder). The rice collected from surrounding villages (including those from Qiaolin Township also came here to pay) is temporarily stored here, and will be transported by large ships in the river when it is used. After the victory of the Anti-Japanese War, the Communist Party's guerrillas had frequent activities in the Beishan area, and the Jieyang County Government sent a company of local troops to garrison in Yuecheng. The camp is located in a newly built large ancestral hall in the southwest corner of the village. Because there are two two-story observation towers in the north and south of the ancestral hall, you can see far away from the top (in the old days, they were all low-rise bungalows). You can look at Rongcheng in the east and have convenient access. You can control Nantang in the west to monitor guerrilla activities. The Jiehe Highway can be controlled in the south, and the ships in and out of the Rongjiang River can be monitored in the north. Therefore, this company only sent one squad to guard the granary, and the rest were stationed in the ancestral hall, thinking that they would have nothing to worry about and nothing would go wrong.

In the spring of the 37th year of the Republic of China (1948), farmers were short of food and the spring famine was serious. However, various granaries of the National Government had tens of thousands of tons of rice in reserve. Therefore, the Chinese Communist Chaojie Fengbian Military Work Team, with the cooperation of underground party organizations, mobilized the masses, broke down warehouses, grabbed grain, and provided relief to the victims. At the end of the second month of the lunar calendar, the guerrillas frequently moved east and west in Nantang Mountain, intending to spy on the county seat. This aroused the tension of the Jieyang County Government and mobilized troops from various places to defend the county seat. This will disperse the opponent's forces and weaken Moon City's defensive strength. More than ten days passed without any other movement, and the county government breathed a sigh of relief. During this period, the armed workers team secretly organized farmers in the villages of the old Beipian District, and each person prepared an empty basket. One night in early March, Led by farmers' association cadres, they secretly moved toward Yuecheng from the northwest corner. At this time, lights appeared and went out in the area from Nantang Mountain to Deqiaotou, attracting phone calls from the Yuecheng garrison from time to time, all reporting that everything was fine. Yuecheng underground party organization. Through some people who often interacted with the granary garrison, they tricked the granary door into opening around ten o'clock, controlled the garrison leader, and forced him not to reveal the truth on the phone.

After the granary was opened, the masses entered in an orderly manner, packed rice in bamboo baskets silently, and walked out of the village. One team after another passed by without even the nearby residents noticing. The troops stationed about a mile away could not hear anything. Because there were normal calls, I only focused on the southwest direction. Until dawn, the rice in the Yuecheng granary had all fallen into the farmers' homes. The armed workers team did not fire a shot or a bullet. It was not until the team retreated that the garrison knew that they had been tricked, but the barn was already empty.

The news of the victory over the Moon City granary spread immediately, and the reputation of the Beishan guerrillas became a household name.
